Thursday Thoughts: February 26

Last weekend, James and I drove home to visit family for the weekend.  We had to drive through sleet and rain for about an hour, then it was clear roads all the way home! Mom and I were able to get out Saturday late morning for a run with Shay.  The weather was gorgeous for February, and we had a great run, just like old times.  Shay wasn’t having anything to do with the picture before our run, she wanted to run and chase squirrels!  After our run, we got pedicures at the beauty school, which felt amazing, and now I have pretty pink toes for spring, if spring ever decides to arrive.  I do love my Shay; I miss being able to run with her and Mom on a daily basis.

One of the most exciting parts of the weekend was getting to meet this handsome little fellow, Gordon.  Mom and Dad adopted him a couple months go, and he’s been ornery and playful and adorable.  He’s about 9 or 10 months old, and he is so playful!

I was also coerced into buying girl scout cookies by the cutest and most persuasive girl scout I know.  I bought cookies on Saturday, and they are gone already.  Crazy how addictive and yummy those things are.

We visited Grandma and Granddad, and Grandma shared her chocolates from Valentine’s Day with us.  She go the biggest box of chocolates ever.  Notice how she is eating them from the bottom right hand corner up to work her way through the box.

I found this gem of a photo while looking through old pictures with Ava over the weekend.  Talk about a zumba #throwback!  I rocked that front row back in the day.  Miss my zumba days with Michelle, Mom, Maja, and the gang.

We came home Sunday afternoon, and though we missed watching the Oscars on Sunday, we watched them Monday night.  For the first year in many, James and I didn’t bet who would win each category.  I’m pretty sure I’ve won the last 5 years, at least!  Jasper was happy to have us home, I like to think he missed us while we were gone.  I know I missed him.

After a not-so-great run on Monday, I missed running Tuesday due to a Dentist appointment.  I was able to make it to the Groupie run tonight, and test-ran in some Adidas Ultra Boost shoes.  They are cushy and responsive, I liked them quite a bit. The wind sure was cold on the run tonight though, I’m glad we ran into the wind the first half, so I had a tail wind on the way back.

It’s supposed to snow 3-6 inches this weekend, we’ll see if it actually does.  House of Cards is released tomorrow, and I’m sure James and I will be watching most, if not all, of the episodes within a few days.  If it snows, it’ll be a great opportunity to binge watch them.  We are still working our way through Sherlock too, we are ready for Season 3.  It’s been a great show to watch, we are in love with the show and Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman‘s performances.

Have a great weekend, and if it snows, be safe!  Best of luck to my sister who’s running the Little Rock Half Marathon this weekend!

My Aunt Debi gave me a very old FHSU shirt a while ago, I’m not sure how old it is, but probably from the late 90’s? I love the logo! I wore it in KC last weekend to celebrate FHSU Homecoming! Go Tigers!

I have a #throwbackthursday for today. A couple days ago my Timehop showed me a photo from 7 years ago, when Mom, Dad, Kristen and I went to a Huskers Game with Grandma and Granddad and Great Uncle and Aunt Lyle and Diann.  We’ve gone to several games over the years, but it’s been a long time since we all went together.  If I remember, the Huskers lost this game, but we still had a great time!Photo Oct 14, 8 46 57 AMThe other day, there was something (someone) in my fridge that should not be in my fridge.  Nearly every time I open the door, he’s there wanting to get in! I was putting water bottles on the bottom shelf, so the door was open for a couple minutes, and he took the opportunity to jump right in.

Last weekend, James saw a tweet by The Oatmeal, he was in KC and had a book signing in the Plaza.  We didn’t really have much else going on, so we headed over to the Plaza, listened to him speak a little, and bought a couple books and had him sign them!  He drew a blerch (and blerch butt) in my book!

If you don’t know who The Oatmeal is, his name is Matthew Inman, he is an internet comic and artist.  James and I have liked reading his comics for a long time, and often send them back and forth to each other.  James bought The Oatmeal’s first book, “5 Very Good Reasons to Punch a Dolphin In the Mouth (And Other Useful Guides),” and I bought his most recent book, “The Terrible and Wonderful Reasons Why I Run Long Distances.”

It turned into a fun little outing, especially because after we met the Oatmeal and had our books signed, James treated me to Build a Bear to make Toothless! We both LOVE How to Train Your Dragon, and after the second movie was in theaters this summer, he saw that Build a Bear had them, but it was so popular it sold out immediately.  He found out recently they were back in stock, and surprised me by going to get one!

ROYALS FEVER!! Yesterday, the Kansas City Royals made history by winning the ALCS and making it to the World Series for the first time in 29 years.  They also set the record for 8 wins in a row in the Post Season, something never done before!  Congrats, Kansas City, I’m so proud and excited to live in this city during this time.  The energy around the city is amazing, there are signs up everywhere, the busses around town say “Go Royals,” the fountains are even blue.  It’s truly an amazing time, and I’m proud to Be Royal!

Tonight, I can’t wait to take Mom and Kristen with me to the KCRC Groupies run, which happens to be at Martin City, which is close by; there will be free pizza and beer after!  It’s shaping up to be quite a busy and fun weekend with the race!  See my KC Half Marathon preview here.  Good luck to everyone running the Kansas City Marathon this weekend, and to all other runners racing or running this weekend.
