Monday Mentionings: November 21

Good morning friends! Happy Thanksgiving week, for those of you traveling or having family and friends travel, be safe and enjoy your time with loved ones!

Last Monday night, I went with Chris to the recording studio that his band has been using to record a song, to hang out while they finished something up.  Afterwards, we wanted ice cream, and I asked Siri where to get some ice cream, and the response she gave is below.  Weirdo.

Tuesday, after work, I made a yummy and easy dessert for Friday’s “dip food day” that we had at work.  It was a cherry cheesecake dip, and it went over great! Recipe below:

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz. Greek yogurt cream cheese, softened.
  • 10 oz. non-dairy whipped topping.
  • 1 c. plan nonfat Greek yogurt.
  • 1/2 c. sweetened condensed milk
  • 21 oz. can of cherry pie filling.

Instructions:

  1. Beat together cream cheese and non-dairy whipped topping until well combined.
  2. Mix in greek yogurt and sweetened condensed milk until combined.
  3. Spread into dish.
  4. Top with cherry pie filling.
  5. Chill until ready to serve.
  6. Serve with graham crackers or vanilla wafers.

Thursday night, Chris’ band had a show in Westport.  They did great!  I can’t wait to see them play again Dec. 10 (here) and Dec. 17 (here)! If you’re in the KC area, you should come out and watch!

Friday, it got COLD! It was like 60 or 70 degrees all week, then a huge cold front came in, and it was in the 40s Friday.  Saturday morning, it felt like 24 degrees, but Chris and I went out and had a beautiful and chilly run anyway.

Later, we ran a few errands, and also visited The Container Store (for the first time ever)! It was such a great store, we will definitely be back.  After errands, we saw Dr. Strange, which was pretty good!

I’m really excited for Kristen and Thayne to fly in, and Chris will also join us to make the trip home!  Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving Pictures!

My long Thanksgiving weekend was filled with family, friends, food, football, and freezing temps!  Alliteration aside, I had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  It was a perfect, low key, loving Thanksgiving, and I’m sad the weekend went so quickly, but I couldn’t have asked for a better time.

Wednesday, I got off work a bit early for the holiday, so I went home to grab my bag and Jazzy.  Kristen and Thayne had flown in the night before, so we all hopped in the car and drove to Hays!

We made two stops once we got into Hays, before going to Mom and Dad’s.  The first was Taco Grande, and the second was Cervs, for a snoball.

Thursday morning, while Mom was cooking away in the kitchen, and Kristen was baking away at some pies (I assisted in both, but just barely), I met up with Michelle, and we stopped at Cervs for what?  A snoball!  We got lots of hugs from Maja, and lots of sugar from our snoballs.

I’m sad this is the only photo I took at Thanksgiving dinner, but I am so thankful for this meal with Mom, Dad, Kristen, Thayne, Grandma, and Granddad.  It was perfect.  Not seen, but also eaten, was a piece of cherry pie, and a piece of pumpkin streusel cake.  Mmmmmm!

Later on Thanksgiving night, my dinner was another piece of pumpkin streusel cake, and Jazzy had a bit of the whipped cream.

Overall, Jasper got along pretty well with Mom and Dad’s critters.  Gordon, Lucy, and Jasper tolerated each other, from a distance, and Jasper is kind of in love with Shay’s scent, rolling all over her pillow and where she likes to lay on the floor, but pretty much left Shay alone.

Friday morning, we met Leann and Ava at the movie theatre, and watched Good Dinosaur.  Super cute movie, reminded me of The Lion King and The Land Before Time.

After the movie, Mom and Kristen and I went to Hays Rec to run and workout, because the roads were icy.  4 miles on the treadmill, followed by a bit of weight lifting.

Later on Friday night, after a most interesting trip to Cervs (yes, again) and the liquor store, we ate delicious homemade pizza and sat by the fire.

After pizza was a spirited game of Candyland.  Mom won in about 5 minutes, and then Ava and I battled for a while.

Oh Jazzy.  🙂

Saturday, it was still super cold, but the ice was gone.  Mom, Kristen, and I did a little small business Saturday shopping, then Mom and I bundled up for a run.  Brr is all I can say.  Kristen went out a bit later and ran too, and man, it was a chilly one.

Saturday night, we ate at a newish Mexican restaurant with Steve, Leann, and Ava, then went bowling!

It’s been a really long time since I bowled!  The “kids” got to bowl with the bumpers, and the parents bowled without bumpers.  I hate to admit this, but Ava beat me the first game!  That stinker may have a bit of her Daddy’s bowling talent!  Not to worry, I beat her the second game, but still came in after Thayne and Kristen.

Early early EARLY Sunday morning, Jazzy, Kristen, Thayne, and I hit the road back to KC.  We had tickets to watch the Chiefs play at noon, so we had to cut the Hays part of Thanksgiving a bit short to get to KC in time.

The weather was generally crappy for the entire Thanksgiving weekend, either cold, or raining, or freezing rain, or drizzle… but the weather for the game was probably the worst.  Cold, with drizzle and rain the entire time.  I’m really glad Mom and Dad sent three ponchos with us, but I wish I would have bought some foot warmers too.

It was my very first Chiefs game, and overall, it was a lot of fun.  I wish the weather was not so wet, but it was a fun time, and the Chiefs even won!

I had to switch ponchos with Thayne, because he tried on the yellow poncho, and his head with hat and 2 hoods wouldn’t fit! With my one hat and ear warmer, my head fit just fine, so I got to be mustard instead of ketchup.

After the game, Kristen and I made chicken noodle soup to warm up, and I got to spend a few more hours with Kristen and Thayne before their late flight back home.

Jasper was so tired and worn out from the long weekend and from time in the car earlier on Sunday, that he actually tolerated Thayne stacking all 46 of his toys on him.  For anyone who knows Jasper, this was likely a very rare occurrence.. he does not usually like this sort of thing!

All in all, it was a most wonderful Thanksgiving.  I’m so thankful for everyone in my life, and for the time we were able to spend together.

My heart is full.

Thanks on Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!  I hope you are celebrating and giving thanks with the loved ones in your life.

I wanted to take a few minutes and give thanks to many of the blessings in my life right now.  There are many people in this world that do not have the basic necessities that I do, that most American’s do, and it is so easy to take that for granted.  I am thankful every day that I have a roof over my head, food to eat, clothes to keep me warm, and that I am able to have things that many don’t.  I’m thankful to be employed, have a vehicle, and have the ability to travel for work and for play.  That being said, I am very thankful, this year, for a few things that stand out a bit above the rest.

• I am thankful for the amazing support system that my family and closest friends gives me.  2015 has been a tough year, between getting divorced, having many “first” holidays alone and learning to live on my own,  as well as having lost my grandpa at the end of last year, and without my wonderful family and amazing friends, I would not be in the great place I am today.  I don’t say it often enough, but I love you guys, and I couldn’t do this whole “life” thing without you.

• I am thankful for a new job, with good benefits, a drastically reduced commute to work, with lots of opportunity for growth.  I had only been job searching for a few months when this wonderful opportunity arose, and I’m so thankful that I got the job and have the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

• I am thankful for running.  For the ability to run, and for the time to run.  Running is my therapy, and I am thankful that I am healthy and strong enough to run 4 or 5 days each week.  I’m grateful that I have warm clothes to do so, with winter coming, and that I can commit the time and energy to keeping my hobby alive and well, as it keeps me alive and well.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
