MM: March 20

This Kansas weather has been all over the place!  Yesterday it was 87 degrees, but earlier in the week it was 20! Insane.

Last week Monday, I went to cycle class. and had a great hard workout.  After not going to class regularly for a few months, it feels good to get back in the saddle once a week or so.

Tuesday, like I said, it was chilly!  I whined enough to make Chris join me on an outdoor run because the sun is finally out later, and it turned out to be a pretty nice run, even though it was cold.

Wednesday night was chilly too, but Amy and I had a great 5 mile run; the sun being out later helps those evening runs SO MUCH!   We had a nice run and got caught up on life happenings.

Saturday morning, we headed out for 10 miles on the trails.  From the very first mile, I knew it was a rough run. The first 5 went great, but I was severely lacking energy, and knew the 5 after the turnaround would be hard.  I made a huge mistake of stopping at the halfway mark to take a gu and try to talk myself up a bit.  Stopping made it so very much harder to get going. I had nothing in the tank.  I ended up walking quite a bit on the way back. Chris powered through and got 10 miles, and I finished with 9.

I was pretty bummed about it, because Chris was feeling good and I was feeling like I was holding him back, but I know hard runs just happen sometimes.  He really helped me push through to finish.  I have to remember that in January and February, I ran about 55 miles each month.  With Saturday’s long run, I have just over 50 miles for March alone. Plus I’m still rehabbing my ankle a bit, so the fact that this run was especially hard shouldn’t have come as a big surprise.

After the run, we went to Longboards for their amazing Cabo Beef Wraps.  Mmmmmmm!

Sunday was a lot of fun! We planned to go to Shawnee Mission Park to walk/hike more of the trail we found a few weeks back.  We headed out for 6 miles, and somehow took a slightly different way back than we went out, but it was absolutely gorgeous out. There were so many people and dogs out, the weather was perfect, even a bit warm!  We finished with 6 miles and definitely want to go back out again soon.

Did you get a chance to enjoy spring over the weekend?

MM: March 6

Happy Birthday to my brother-in-law, Thayne, today!

For the first week THIS YEAR, I was able to workout 6 days last week.  Between packing for Chris’ move, being sick, and working on wedding stuff, I hadn’t done my typical 6 days per week workouts, usually skipping an additional day above my normal rest day per week.  But this last week, I got in all 6 days!  Monday, Chris and I went to cycle class. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, I ran, with Chris or solo. Saturday and yesterday, Chris and I ran, including a 7 mile run yesterday with some crazy wind.  It felt good to get in all 6 days!

Jasper is quite intrigued by my new hypersphere massager ball.  It is doing wonders for my knee/calf pain, I am really glad I bought it.

Saturday, Chris and I had all sorts of adventures, including driving out to Oak Grove to pick up some wedding decorations, an impromptu visit to the downtown KC library, and dinner with an old friend in Brookside.  It was a fun day, for sure.

Sunday after our long run, Chris got treated to his very first pedicure. It felt wonderful after a hard, long, windy run.  And don’t worry, Chris didn’t get any polish. 😛

Funny story that happened last week in KC: A trailer full of cattle tipped over and a huge bunch of cows were set lo0se in Lenexa, and were wandering around and being lasso’d on the highway.  #onlyinkansas

I don’t have too much else to share for this week, Chris and I have been busy wedding planning, running, and keeping Jazzy occupied! Have a great week!

2017: February Running

On February 1, I sprained my ankle during the last half mile of my 4 mile run. It got pretty bruised and swollen, and I took just about 10 days off running to let it heal. I did run a mile after 6 days, which initially felt great, but my ankle told me it was too early to be running and I took a few more days off.  I definitely did not run as much as I wanted to in February, but managed to get in 53 miles for the month.  I ran 55 miles in January, you can read all about it here.

After spraining my ankle and not running for a bit, Mom and Dad came down for the 2nd weekend of the month, and we got in a run while Dad biked along; it was the first real run I had since hurting my ankle.

We had some crazy unseasonably warm weather in February, and Chris and had a couple walks/hikes by the lake.  We found this great trail at Shawnee Mission Park that we want to hike, and maybe eventually run – it’s about 3 miles out, and then it ends, so we’d get a 6 mile hike or run out of it.

As far as running goes, I had several good runs, despite my ankle sprain.  Towards the end of the month, my runs have definitely been feeling stronger.  I ran with Chris several times, with KCRC, friends, and Mom and Dad once too… nice variety of running company in February.

I went to a couple cycle classes in February, and I’ve missed them! I need to get back to cycle more often.  Chris went with me, and enjoyed it as well.  We may have a new most-Monday nights tradition!

Running: 15 runs, totaling 53 miles.
Cycling: 2 cycle classes, totaling 19 miles.
Longest Run: 6 miles, twice, February 19 and February 26.
