Thursday Things: Netflix Shows

With baseball now in the postseason, and sadly coming to an end soon, Netflix is coming back into my life. All spring and summer, I’ve been watching the Royals play, nearly every night. And my poor Netflix account has been collecting dust, as it were. Over the last few weeks, though, I’ve been getting back into Netflix. Today, I have a couple shows to share with you for Thursday’s Things (today isn’t Thursday’s Three, because I only have two!)

I like to watch one or two shows at a time, it’s hard for me to simultaneously watch more than that. I recently finished Bloodline, which was strangely addicting. I have two shows, now, that I’ve recently began watching on Netflix, that I just can’t get enough of. Now, both of these shows have been around for a bit, so don’t judge me for jumping on the series’ late.   First, Scandal. I have finally started watching Scandal, and can’t get enough. As of last night, I am 4 episodes into season 2. I don’t know how I didn’t find this show sooner. I love the politics, the drama, and Kerry Washington. I am in love with this show, and can’t look away when it’s on. It’s smart and elegantly crafted, and I love learning a little more about each character every episode. Second, Parenthood. Thanks so much to my sister, who is watching this show, and wanted to watch it while I was visiting last weekend… I have watched parts of season 4 and 5, and now, must start at the beginning and catch up, because I’m fully invested now. I have heard people talking about watching Parenthood, and just by the name, kind of assumed it was some sort of reality TV show following parents, or something. I didn’t realize it was a series.    Just about the only show I watch week-to-week is The Big Bang Theory, which I really enjoy, but the drama and intelligence in Scandal, and the heart-string-pulling relationships in Parenthood give me something that The Big Bang Theory, as a 30 minute comedy, just can’t.

Some of my other recent favorites are House of Cards, The Fall, Sherlock, Orange is the New Black. I’d LOVE for you to share your favorite shows with me, because once I binge watch my way through Scandal and Parenthood, I’ll need new shows!!

Thursday Thoughts: February 26

Last weekend, James and I drove home to visit family for the weekend.  We had to drive through sleet and rain for about an hour, then it was clear roads all the way home! Mom and I were able to get out Saturday late morning for a run with Shay.  The weather was gorgeous for February, and we had a great run, just like old times.  Shay wasn’t having anything to do with the picture before our run, she wanted to run and chase squirrels!  After our run, we got pedicures at the beauty school, which felt amazing, and now I have pretty pink toes for spring, if spring ever decides to arrive.  I do love my Shay; I miss being able to run with her and Mom on a daily basis.

One of the most exciting parts of the weekend was getting to meet this handsome little fellow, Gordon.  Mom and Dad adopted him a couple months go, and he’s been ornery and playful and adorable.  He’s about 9 or 10 months old, and he is so playful!

I was also coerced into buying girl scout cookies by the cutest and most persuasive girl scout I know.  I bought cookies on Saturday, and they are gone already.  Crazy how addictive and yummy those things are.

We visited Grandma and Granddad, and Grandma shared her chocolates from Valentine’s Day with us.  She go the biggest box of chocolates ever.  Notice how she is eating them from the bottom right hand corner up to work her way through the box.

I found this gem of a photo while looking through old pictures with Ava over the weekend.  Talk about a zumba #throwback!  I rocked that front row back in the day.  Miss my zumba days with Michelle, Mom, Maja, and the gang.

We came home Sunday afternoon, and though we missed watching the Oscars on Sunday, we watched them Monday night.  For the first year in many, James and I didn’t bet who would win each category.  I’m pretty sure I’ve won the last 5 years, at least!  Jasper was happy to have us home, I like to think he missed us while we were gone.  I know I missed him.

After a not-so-great run on Monday, I missed running Tuesday due to a Dentist appointment.  I was able to make it to the Groupie run tonight, and test-ran in some Adidas Ultra Boost shoes.  They are cushy and responsive, I liked them quite a bit. The wind sure was cold on the run tonight though, I’m glad we ran into the wind the first half, so I had a tail wind on the way back.

It’s supposed to snow 3-6 inches this weekend, we’ll see if it actually does.  House of Cards is released tomorrow, and I’m sure James and I will be watching most, if not all, of the episodes within a few days.  If it snows, it’ll be a great opportunity to binge watch them.  We are still working our way through Sherlock too, we are ready for Season 3.  It’s been a great show to watch, we are in love with the show and Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman‘s performances.

Have a great weekend, and if it snows, be safe!  Best of luck to my sister who’s running the Little Rock Half Marathon this weekend!

Thursday Thoughts: February 19

Over the last weekend, James and I celebrated Valentine’s Day, and our 11th year together.  I forgot to post this picture, it’s from dinner at The Well, I was presented a rose when we walked in the door.  It was a nice touch by the restaurant.

Also over the weekend, we found this most amazing little pet tie for Jasper.  He wasn’t too sure at first, but once treats were introduced, he wore it like a little gentleman.  Jasper is officially the most dapper cat ever.

James and I have been wanting to watch Sherlock for a while now, and finally sat down and watched the first 3 episodes (season 1) this week.  To say we love it is an understatement.  We both like Sherlock Holmes stories, though I think James has more history with the stories.  Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are a great team, and we can’t wait to watch the 2nd and 3rd seasons – each season is only 3 episodes, but the episode are about an hour and a half long.  It really feels like a series of movies more than a British TV show.  It’s on Netflix, so if you haven’t watched it and like Sherlock Holmes stories, Benedict Cumberbatch, or british accents, you should really drop what you’re doing and watch it now.  You can thank me later.

I found these little gems at Target the other day.  I love bel Vita breakfast biscuits, and usually have them for breakfast most days on my way to work.  These are itty bitty baby bite sized biscuits.  I found the mixed berry and the chocolate bites, and they are both pretty tasty.

I am finally feeling better, after battling bronchitis for over 10 days.  I still have a bit of a lingering cough, especially after I run and when I wake up, but I feel tons better than I did last week.

Tomorrow, if the weather holds out, James and I will go home for the weekend to see our parents and grandparents.  We haven’t been home since Christmas.  It’s hard to believe that Christmas was already 2 months ago.  I’m excited to get a hug from Mom and Dad, to drink a snowball, and to meet Mom and Dad’s new little fur baby, Gordon.

Have you seen Sherlock?  What other “must see” shows should we add to our list?
