MM: July 24

It’s Monday, and I’m having surgery tomorrow! *insert big eyed anxious emoji* For those who don’t know, I’m having the screws from my ACL surgery in 2009 removed tomorrow.  The doctors believe the screws have been pushing on a tendon and the nerves behind it, causing the increasing pain I’ve been having over the last couple years, made worse by running. I’m very hopeful that it will alleviate my pain and allow me to get back to running!  Anyway, since it’s Monday, I have a few pictures to share with you from last week!

I was able to get a couple miles in with Jenn last week, and boy was it hot out. UGH it was hot! We sat with our legs in the pool after that ridiculously hot and humid run. It was nice to get a little run in with a friend before surgery. Hopefully in a couple of months, I’ll be able to get back to weekly runs with friends!

I also got some miles in on the bike and on the ARC last week.

On Thursday night, Chris and I went to the Royals/Tigers game. The Royals had a really good game, and the Tigers did not. We sat in Gordo Nation, and it was lots of fun to get the t-shirt and cheer ‘dem Roys on to a great win.

We got ice cream at the game, and I just had to put the little hat on Jazzy when we got home. He hated it, but he was beyond cute.

Saturday morning, Chris and I biked to his eye doctor, to pick up his new pair of contacts. It was super warm and humid out, but we got in our long ride and ran an errand. Win-win!

Also on Saturday, we saw the new Spiderman movie, got flowers to make the bouquets for our wedding, and did some other wedding stuff.  I planned on saving the bouquet making for the next couple of weeks when I’m laid up with my knee, but I caught the “get stuff done bug” and now all the bouquets are done! I will need to figure out boutonnieres, but that can wait a bit!

Jasper has really been enjoying all the new spots to lay in our new townhome. Every time I look up, he’s laying somewhere new.  I think he’s happy here, and I know I love it here.  It really feels like home.

Have a great week! I’ll try to post next week, but if I don’t, I’ll see ya’ll in a couple weeks! I hope everyone stays cool with this crazy heat!

MM: May 8

Monday! As is becoming normal, I didn’t take any pictures except for the weekend.  The week went by fairly quickly between work, running, workout classes, and baseball.

Friday night, Chris’ band had a show at the All Star Rock Bar. It was tons of fun! In between shows, and after Chris’ show, I was watching the #Breaking2 attempt – Nike was sponsoring 3 elite runners to attempt to break 2 hours in the full marathon. They were trying to take 2:57 off the World Record time.  The attempt was not world record eligible due to pacers and hydration techniques, but it was really fascinating to watch.  I’m sure other bar-goers on a Friday night thought I was odd for watching a marathon at a bar, but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do!

Saturday, lots of errands were completed, and then Chris and I ran 2 miles in the evening.  We also saw Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 Sunday, we got up too late to get an early run in, but headed out to Shawnee Mission Parkway around 10:30. It got warm! Spring is definitely here, after temps in the 40s last weekend, it was high 70s, and the sun was hot.  I managed 6 miles, hoping for 7, but it was rough in the heat. Chris had stomach problems and dropped out after 1, but kept me company on my 1.5 mile loops, seeing him and grabbing water every 1.5 miles until I was finished.

The boys enjoyed a short Sunday afternoon nap too. They are so very precious together.

Sunday night we made burgers, corn on the cob, and baked beans. If it’s going to feel like summer outside, we’re going to eat like summer!

I’m excited to go home this weekend to see sisser and her baby bump (squeee!!!), celebrate the baby shower, and have at least 3 amazing snoballs. Have a great week!

2017: April Running

April, I’m glad you’re over! I ran 52 miles in April, which is my lowest mileage for the year. In fact, it’s my lowest mileage since January 2016! You can check out my recaps for JanuaryFebruary, and March if you need to catch up!

I really have no good reason why my mileage was so low. I just wasn’t feeling running in April.  The month started off with the Rock the Parkway Half Marathon. That race kind of led me into a downward spiral, with lots of emotions in many different aspects of my life bubbling up.  I’m fine, nobody needs to worry, but my running has definitely been slacking.  On top of the emotional issues I’ve been dealing with, I’ve been super swamped with wedding planning, moving prep, and work.  None of these things are good excuses, and I’m not trying to write them off, it’s just what happened in April.

I’m glad for May, a clean slate, a fresh start, a new month.

Back to April.  Rock the Parkway was the second Saturday of the month.  I didn’t write a race recap, but basically it was the slowest half I’ve ever run. I walked more than I’ve ever walked, and Chris stayed by my side for every single step. Emotionally, I went through happiness, sadness, frustration, hope, disgust, thankfulness, gratitude, rage, envy, hopelessness, shame, joy, love… the list goes on and on and on…  The race is over, I’ve dealt with a lot of my emotions, and still dealing with a lot more, but I’m in a much better place than I was at the finish line of that race.

I only ran 11 times in April, the lowest in a long time.  Running is always there for me, and will always be there for me, whether or not I take a break.  I’m ready to get back on the horse and start putting in the mileage again.  I got a nice fun run in St. Joseph while Chris had band practice one Saturday, which was a fun way to explore a bit.

Chris and I had some good runs too, the weather was really nice for part of the month, really hot and windy for part, and then at the end of the month, got cold and rainy.   I didn’t cycle at all in April. I need to work on that for May, and plan to go to cycle tonight.  I’ve added in some Group X classes, mainly a strength class during lunch once a week, and hope to add in a second day per week soon, and also get back to lifting on my own once a week or so.  Baby steps!

I finished out the month with the Trolley Run, which is one of my very favorite KC races.  It was Chris’ first time doing the Trolley Run, and my third.  It was cold and drizzly, but we had a great run. I’ll be writing a recap this week.

Looking forward to May: I have no races, but hope to get in some solid runs. My goal for the month is 75 miles for the month, and at least 1 strength session per week at the gym, and at least 3 cycle classes for the month.  How was your April? What does your May look like?

April stats:
Running:  11 runs, totaling 52 miles
Longest Run: 6 miles, April 23rd.
Races: Rock the Parkway Half Marathon and the Trolley Run
