2017: March Running

I have just one word for March’s weather: bipolar!  One day I could run in a tank top and be sweaty in minutes, and the next day it’s chilly and rainy, and then the next day it’s warm and windy.  CRAZY weather.  I ran 3 miles last night to finish with 90 miles for March!  You can check out the recaps for January and February.

I cycled 3 times in March, and had some solid miles on the bike.  I’ve been enjoying the cycle classes lately, they’ve been pushing me out of my comfort zone, and I’m happy to have Chris with me on occasion too.

Like I said above, the weather is crazy. I ran 5 miles with Amy on one Wednesday and it was chilly enough for vests and ear coverings, and then on that Saturday, Chris and I ran long and I was in a tank top and super sweaty! Crazy weather.  I had several long runs in March, with a 7 miler one weekend, 9 another weekend, and 10 last weekend.

Chris and I also explored the trails at Shawnee Mission Park, which was great cross-training, and a nice change of pace for a “recovery” after one of our long runs.  We hope to continue going out to the trails to explore and hike every now and then.

My ankle has been doing better since I sprained it at the beginning of February. It still gets kind of puffy after long runs, and I still have some sharp pain near my pinky toe, especially after running, but it’s getting better!

I was thrilled to meet up with Erica and run 10 miles last weekend on the paved trails by Leawood City Park.  It had been a couple years since I’d seen her last; she was one of my karate buddies from back in the day.

Looking ahead to April: I have 2 races, Rock the Parkway Half Marathon, next weekend, and then at the end of the month, the Trolley Run 4 miler.  How was your March?

March stats:
Running: 17 runs, totaling 90 miles.
Cycling: 3 cycle classes, totaling 32 miles.
Longest Run: 10 miles, March 26th.
Races: None.

MM: March 27

Last week was filled with lots of good runs! Wednesday, I met up with Amy and we had a great run in the chiller weather that was back. The weather over the past few weeks has been so crazy, 40s and 50s, then 80s, then back to chilly again.

After the run Wednesday, Michelle, Chris, and I went to Davids Bridal to look at a bridesmaid dress and Jr. bridesmaid dresses.  I managed to lock my keys in my car, becuase I’m just that talented. After AAA came and got into my car, we had to stop for ice cream.

Thursday, the nice warm weather was back, and Chris and I had a 5 mile run. I spent the last half of the run carrying this bouncy ball I found, and then when I bounced it after the run, I learned it lights up when it bounces. SO FUN!

Saturday morning while Chris was at work, I rearranged the living room and cleaned the place up. I also went through some old race shirts and donated a bunch of them to charity.  It was nice to change the look of the living room a bit and do a little spring cleaning.

My parents picked up their new little fur baby Saturday. World, meet Skye.  She is quite possibly the cutest little chubby puppy ever.  I’ve been getting pictures and videos all weekend, and I can’t wait to meet her!

Sunday morning, Chris and I met up with Erica and ran 10 miles on the trails.  It was chilly, but not raining, and ended up being a really great 10 mile run.  My knee was not very happy at the end of the run, and I was dealing with some chilling and dizziness over the last 3 miles, but we got it done! It was really nice to catch up with Erica a bit and get a solid training run in.

Did you run long this weekend? Are you into “spring cleaning?” Have a great week!

Monday Mentionings: July 27

Last Monday evening, I ran a few miles in my old neighborhood after my chiropractor appointment. I was really excited to see my very favorite fountain in the center of a roundabout, but it was shut off! Boo! I stopped and took a few pictures of the flowers surrounding the fountain, because they were gorgeous in the evening light.  I also stopped my my favorite waterfall, and wished I could let the water run over my head.  It’s been H.O.T. lately!Photo Jul 26, 7 48 18 PMTuesday night was speed night at KCRC. We did 400m repeats, which used to scare the poo out of me, but I’m warming up to speed work.  I am getting faster and stronger with every groupie run I go to!Photo Jul 22, 3 58 39 PMWednesday, Amy and I woke up early (AHH early morning runs!) and got a few miles in before work.  Then, that night, we tailgated with KC Running Company and then watched the Royals beat the Pirates at the K.  KCRC got us all seats in the fountain area, and it was a really fun experience.  It was a gorgeous night, the weather, company, and baseball game were perfect!Photo Jul 23, 11 23 24 AMPhoto Jul 23, 11 26 13 AMPhoto Jul 26, 6 43 12 PMAnother highlight of my week was getting my new coloring books in the mail! My little sister and I always enjoyed coloring, and I’ve heard a lot about Adult Coloring Books lately, so I bought a couple from Amazon and have been enjoying them!  I highly suggest getting a coloring book if you need to de-stress!Photo Jul 26, 6 39 43 PMAfter spending the day eating Mexican with Michelle and swimming with Amy, I had a 5k on Saturday night.  Not a wise idea to swim outside in the heat all afternoon before running the Rock the Crossroads 5k in the heat and humidity! Anyway, it’s done, and you can read my recap here!Photo Jul 26, 6 41 54 PMYesterday, Amy and I managed to run a bit over 5 miles on tired legs nad bodies.  The heat and humidity (have you heard, it’s hot and humid here in KC!) are killer!

Last but not least, a couple Jazzy pics! Don’t worry, he’s not vicious, he’s just yawning!  Have a great week, friends!Photo Jul 26, 8 23 04 PM
