Monday Mentionings: April 4

Good Monday morning! First things first: BASEBALL IS BACK!!!!!  I was so happy to watch the Royals win opening night last night!

Last week Monday, I went on a fun little [hilly and windy] run with Amy and Sandey.  We ate some gnats, took some timed selfies on the trails, and had a pretty decent run! Afterwards, Sandey made buddies with Jazzy.

Most unfortunately, Tuesday after work, I broke my phone! I was texting my sister about taco Tuesday, and dropped my phone down the stairs at work.  Sad day.  I got my new replacement phone on Wednesday, around lunch, so all worked out.

Thursday evening, I had a  5miler with Jenn and Sandey.  It as a bit less windy, and a real good run! Amy couldn’t join us because she was sick in bed.   We had to celebrate by taking more selfies after we were finished.  Naturally, because how do you know we ran if we don’t take selfies to prove it?

Friday, Kristen and 5 other super speedy ladies started Ragnar Southern California, running for #teamsparkle and #ragnar4rett, to raise money for Rett Syndrome, and race the ultra Ragnar So Cal.  I kept up on social media through Friday evening, and when I went to bed, they were still running. Then when I woke up Saturday, they were STILL running, and finished about 30 hours after they started, relay running 190 miles.  The team did amazing, and raised several tens of thousands of dollars for Rett Syndrome research.  I’m so proud of Kristen and the other Team Sparkle girls.

I spent my Friday evening with Michelle! We went to Grinders Stonewall and had pizza and calzones.  Then we went to the mall, and stopped at the liquor store on our way home.  Friday night, done right.

Jazzy and Belle had a little play session with the pheasant feathers after we got home, too. So sweet, these two.

I may have a bit too much fun with Snapchat.  You can snap me: @renfle.

Saturday morning, I tried my best to kill myself by taking 3 group fitness classes and then running with Amy.  Let me explain: I wanted to go to cycle class so I went for 30 minutes, before meeting Michelle to try my first Pound class, then I stuck around for a 30 minute Kettlebell class.  THEN I met up with Amy and we ran 3 miles!  I’m a bit sore today, especially my lower back, probably from the Kettlebell class.  I LOVED trying Pound though! “Pound is the world’s first cardio jam session inspired by the infectious, energizing, and sweat dripping fun of playing the drums.” (source)

Amy, Joshua, and I went to brunch after our run, then ran some errands.  Sweet little Joshua kept holding my hand; he’s going to be heart breaker someday.

Sunday, after running with Amy, I watched a couple episodes of How to Get Away with Murder, which Jasper slept through.  It’s my new show, I can’t watch enough of it!   I’m about halfway through season 2, has anyone else watched?

By Sunday afternoon, I was ready for the Royals! I’m pretty sure I wore 4 or 5 Royals shirts throughout the weekend, including 3 yesterday – one to run, one to run errands, then one after I showered.  I also got to rock my new KC sunglasses.  It’s good to BE ROYAL!  Michelle and I made some amazingly delicious, and addicting, Amaretto Slushies, and enjoyed drinking them while watching the game last night.  Mmmm!

750 ml Amaretto
12 oz can of frozen pineapple juice
12 oz can of frozen raspberry lemonade
6-8 cups water
1/3 cup sugar
Combine and freeze for 8-12 hours
Add sprite and serve.

Yoga Day at the K

Mom is hanging out in town with me this weekend, and among other super fun things we had planned, we had our Sunday scheduled to spend at Kauffman Stadium, first with yoga on the outfield, followed by breakfast with the yogis, and then watching the Royals and the White Sox for the afternoon game.  It. Was. A. BLAST!

We got to the stadium bright and early, just as the sun was coming up.  We got checked in, and hung out with the other yogis before we got to go on the field.  We were there so early, the stadium workers were cleaning and power washing the seats from last night’s game.  That early.

We all marched onto the outfield, and saw Alex Rios playing catch and doing drills.  Later on during the practice, there were a few other players playing catch, and a pitcher warming up.  I couldn’t see who it was, but I have a feeling it may have been Rios and Herrera, since they are still quarantined from the other players due to the Chicken Pox (?) but I’m not sure.  We got our mats all set up and were ready to go!

I’d guesstimate there were about 150-200 yogis on the outfield and about 20 instructors walking around assisting.  The music and main instructor’s mic were played through the stadium speakers, so everything was loud and massive and awesome.

I will say that I spent a lot of time looking around, taking it all in, and not as much time as I should have focusing on my yoga practice… but when else will I be able to do yoga ON THE OUTFIELD of Kauffman Stadium!?

Sue Park taught class, and the practice itself was pretty basic, but considering there were yogis of all backgrounds and abilities, and probably some people who have never practiced before, but wanted to have this amazing opportunity, and the fact that it was already steamy and hot and sunny, the practice was perfect!

After class, we had a bit of time for photo ops and socializing with other yogis.  We did some fun poses in the grass, and I attempted doing some headstands, but without a wall, I kept falling over! I’m making progress though.

LOVED this opportunity!

We made our way to the outfield warning track, and a few other yogis were “jumping into the wall” like Cain making a play… so of course, we had to try too!

Had some more photo ops on the way out off the field, and then made our way past the dugout and out to breakfast.

All in all, yoga on the outfield was an amazing and fun opportunity, and I’m so happy that Mom and I were able to partake.  BUT, we weren’t done with our day! We had a light breakfast, and then had a couple hours to kill before the game.  It was also Mike Sweeney Bobblehead day, and we got a couple bobbleheads on the way in.

We found our seats, which were LUCKILY in the shade!

I found my new “dress,” a $200 Salvy jersey that went halfway down my thighs.

We had to get some treats during the game, and they were quite delicious.

Right after Dyson and Moose homered, we met the Pope!

Most unfortunately, the Royals lost the game, and the series, to the White Sox.  I will definitely keep my eyes out for an opportunity to do yoga on the outfield again, because that was a fun time.

I’ll be sure to recap the rest of our fantastic weekend tomorrow, so be sure to check back!

September Visit

My parents came to town this weekend, and we crammed as much into 2 days as we could!  My grandpa was planning on coming too, but he’s been fighting some health problems and stayed home.  Wish he could have visited, but I’m glad my parents were still able to make it.  We had tickets for the Saturday afternoon Royals game, so they came into town Friday night.

Saturday morning, Mom and I got up and ran a few miles in the the neighborhood area, and I was able to show her some of my favorite running places, including the roundabout fountain and a little pond with a swan.

The swan, who I have lovingly named Edgar, is not a happy swan.  I’ve been on the trail around the pond before, and Edgar follows you in the water, never looking too thrilled to have company on his pond.  Mom and I stopped to see what would happen, and he got out and started chasing us!  We ran a bit and he hopped back in the water to follow us.

We headed to the Royals game around 10:30, there were a TON of people there! It was very warm, and very sunny.  I actually got a sunburn on my shoulders and chest, but it clouded up after 3-4 innings, and was much more comfortable after that.

We had great seats, and several foul balls came close on either side of us, Dad actually jumped up to try to go after one, but the rail stopped him quick.  Unfortunately, the Royals lost, but it was a lot closer game than the first game we went to in July (with my parents).  James and I went to a game in August, and the Royals won.  It was a great day for a game though, and the crowd was fantastic, lots of cheering and a great energy.

The Royals won today, which is great.  Lots of talk of playoffs, and the Royals have drawn the biggest crowds this year in decades. I’m really glad we were able to go to a few games this summer, and hope we’ll get to see more games next year! Go Royals!

After the Royals game, we came back to the apartment, chilled for a bit, changed into Nebraska gear, and went to Callahan’s to watch the Nebraska/Miami game.  The atmosphere in the bar was the best I’ve seen.  Everyone was cheering for the Huskers, everyone was cheering loudly and getting into the game.  Every time the Huskers scored, a siren light would go off, and everyone went nuts.

There was even Lil’ Red there to get cheer for the Huskers! We’ll definitely be back, Callahans is our official Huskers watching bar! Saturday was a crazy full day of sports! We were pretty tuckered out by the time we got back to the apartment, and headed straight to bed.

This morning, Mom and I went to the KCRC Groupies Sunday Runday!  The route was gorgeous, different than the last Sunday Runday from the groupies.  It was cool, calm, gorgeous! We saw ducks, squirrels, lots of other runners and bikers.  KCRC had a Feetures rep and Sacuony reps out, and we all got a free pair of Feetures! There were Saucony shoes to try out, and even though we didn’t this time, it was great to have the option.  I tried Altra Running shoes at one of the last running groupies runs, and ended up buying a pair!

After Mom and Dad left midday, James and I took a wonderful Sunday nap, and saw a movie.  It was such a great weekend, and it was fantastic to hang out with Mom and Dad, it had been far too long.  Now in 2 weeks, Mom and Dad and I will fly up to Milwaukee to visit Kristen and Thayne! 2 short weeks after that Kristen will fly down and we will run the Kansas City Half Marathon.  Yay for family visits!

Did you watch any baseball or football this weekend? It’s fall… cooler weather and football season! Do you love fall as much as I do?
