Weekend with Momma

Mom came down to KC this weekend to hang out and to run the Trolley Run with me.  Friday when Mom got to town, we ran a few miles on the trails near my home.  It was so pretty! We saw several deer, a muskrat, a few ducks and geese, tons of songbirds, and a grounhog!  We also saw some runners and bikers. 😛  It was a gorgeous evening for a run.

Saturday, we did lots of shopping and picked up our race packets for the Trolley Run.  We walked around the Overland Park downtown farmers market for a bit too, which was really cool. We also went to Pop Up Yoga which was at the downtown KC Library.

It was supposed to be on the rooftop, but it was raining on and off all morning, and started raining about 20 minutes before yoga was to begin! We moved right inside from the outdoor patio, and the doors were open, so a nice fresh breeze was moving through the room during yoga.

This was my second Pop Up Yoga class, and Mom’s first.  It was a really nice, slow, gentle class, and the rain outside was just a perfect backdrop.  I wrote a bit about Pop Up Yoga last time I went, when we did some pop up yoga on the Nelson Atkins Museum lawn.

After yoga, Mom and I did a bit more shopping and wandering around downtown KC, and ate an early dinner at Cinzetti’s, an Italian buffet! Who knew you could go to an Italian Buffet?!

These adorable little frog yoga figurines were at a greenhouse/ nursery that we stopped at.  So cute.  I wanted to buy them all!

Sunday, after the race, we hung around the house for a while, and then went to the mall with Amy and her little boy.  Mom even found an adorable Nebraska jersey for her kitty, Gordon! She bought it at Build-a-Bear Workshop!

We had an early dinner at Ted’s Cafe Escondido, which just recently opened up in Overland Park on 135th and Metcalf.  SO GOOD! I had eaten at Ted’s Cafe once before, in OKC, but it had been many years.  It was as good, or maybe even better than I remember!! Warm fresh tortillas, fresh salsa, homemade cheese dip, yum yum!  And after dinner, complimentary sopaipillas!

I did NOT want to get up and come to work today, especially because Mom was still at home with Jasper. It was a fantastic and fun filled weekend.  I had a lot of fun with Momma, racing, running, shopping, eating, and being!

Thursday Thoughts: April 9

I hope the short Thursday Thoughts end soon! I’ve had a REALLY busy week, I moved to a different apartment over the weekend and into Monday.  I’ll write a post about my move soon.

I ran into this goose sitting in a  parking lot last Friday.  I got really close to him, and he just sat there looking at me, sitting in his little puddle.

On Easter Sunday, there was no Groupie run, but I got together with Amy and Emily and we ran a few miles ourselves.  It was a bit windy, but a fun little run.

Photo Apr 05, 9 29 23 AM  Quick update for the April Fitness Challenge, I have missed a few days due to my move, but as of last night, I’m at 260/1000 push ups, 500/2000 squats, and 530/3000 sit ups. The month is almost a third over, how are you doing on your challenge?

Saturday is the Rock the Parkway Half Marathon.  My parents are coming down tomorrow evening, and I’ll run to the expo after work tomorrow to get my packet.  Good luck to my sister, running her second Ragnar Relay this weekend!  If you’re running Rock the Parkway or any other race this weekend, good luck and have fun!!

Pop Up Yoga

I recently attended my first Pop Up Yoga class.  Pop Up Yoga is a free (donations accepted) outdoor yoga class held once every weekend (during nice weather) at different locations around Kansas City.  I went last Saturday, which was the third Pop Up Yoga class held, and over 150 of my new yoga friends and I practiced yoga on the Nelson Atkins Museum lawn!

Lauren, the Instructor, led a fun and gentle flow for about an hour, and then we had about 10 minutes of meditation at the end of the class.  There were lots of families and couples sitting around on the lawn, and many people visiting the museum stopped and watched or joined in.  It was a really fun and unique experience; I had never practiced yoga outside before!

I love the idea of Pop Up Yoga, as it states on the website, the Pop Up classes will help build awareness about the positive effects of yoga, bring diverse groups together and build a stronger community.  The goal is to raise KC’s vibration and keep building our community in order to make KC a more peaceful, happy, and joyful place to call home!

After class, I went for a short run, then walked around the museum and looked at some of the outdoor sculptures.  I had not previously been to the museum.  I’ve run past it a few times in races that were on/near the Plaza, but had not really spent any time looking around.  It was a gorgeous day, after getting a taste, I can’t wait to go back and actually visit the museum.

The meditation at the end of yoga was about looking into one’s self to find what you are seeking.  My Wednesday night yoga class touches on this quite a bit as well, and it is something I will continue to strive for.

I definitely will attend more Pop Up Yoga sessions.  If you’re in the KC area and are interested, be sure to join the Facebook group to know times/dates/locations of the Pop Ups.  If you want to go some weekend, definitely let me know, I’d love to meet you for yoga, and maybe even a short run before or after class!
