MM: April 24

Apparently the theme of this week’s post is Jasper! I have so many photos of him from the last week!  I also forgot to post last Monday, but I only had 1 picture, from Easter Sunday. We drove to Columbia to spend the day with Chris’ best friends and their family.

Last Monday, I got some sweet cuddles from Jazzy when I got home from work.

Wednesday night, I had a great progression run, each mile faster than the previous mile. I’ve had some great runs lately, which is definitely needed after some not so great runs in the last few weeks.

Jasper, doing what he does best.

Saturday morning, Chris had band practice in St. Joseph, so I went along, and while he was practicing, I ran a bit around town.  I actually was stopped by a train with about a half mile left in my run. In 5 years, I’ve never been stopped by a train during a run.  First time for everything, I guess!

The relationship Jazzy and Chris have is so special. Jasper LOVES him so much.  Jasper jumps up and cuddles on him every day. I will admit, I’m a bit jealous of all the snuggles Chris gets.

Sunday, Chris and I hit the trails, and had 6 sunny and beautiful miles.

I’ve seen this on the internet several times lately…. if you put a square on the floor (with tape or rope or something), cats will flock to it and sit in the square.  It didn’t really work with Jasper. He laid in the square after I put him there, but he didn’t stay long.  Chris, however, was drawn to the square… so I guess it did work?

Oh Jazzy.

Trolly Run is on Sunday! I love this race, I can’t wait for it! Have a great week!

2017: February Running

On February 1, I sprained my ankle during the last half mile of my 4 mile run. It got pretty bruised and swollen, and I took just about 10 days off running to let it heal. I did run a mile after 6 days, which initially felt great, but my ankle told me it was too early to be running and I took a few more days off.  I definitely did not run as much as I wanted to in February, but managed to get in 53 miles for the month.  I ran 55 miles in January, you can read all about it here.

After spraining my ankle and not running for a bit, Mom and Dad came down for the 2nd weekend of the month, and we got in a run while Dad biked along; it was the first real run I had since hurting my ankle.

We had some crazy unseasonably warm weather in February, and Chris and had a couple walks/hikes by the lake.  We found this great trail at Shawnee Mission Park that we want to hike, and maybe eventually run – it’s about 3 miles out, and then it ends, so we’d get a 6 mile hike or run out of it.

As far as running goes, I had several good runs, despite my ankle sprain.  Towards the end of the month, my runs have definitely been feeling stronger.  I ran with Chris several times, with KCRC, friends, and Mom and Dad once too… nice variety of running company in February.

I went to a couple cycle classes in February, and I’ve missed them! I need to get back to cycle more often.  Chris went with me, and enjoyed it as well.  We may have a new most-Monday nights tradition!

Looking forward to March, I hope to continue rehabbing my ankle and put in some good quality training runs for the Rock the Parkway half marathon, which is my next race, coming up on April 8.

February stats:
Running: 15 runs, totaling 53 miles.
Cycling: 2 cycle classes, totaling 19 miles.
Longest Run: 6 miles, twice, February 19 and February 26.
Races: None.

Once again, I didn’t take too many pictures last week! I have a few to share, though.  KC was expected to get hit with a huge ice storm Friday/Saturday/Sunday. I really was getting tired of running on the treadmill so many days in a row, so Chris and I went to KC Running Co. to run outside Thursday night. Brr it was so cold! We got a few miles in before the storm that never really came.

Friday, work let out early (again, because of the ice storms that never actually showed up!) and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to run.  Usually I take Fridays off, so it was a bonus run last week!

Saturday, Chris and I got so much adulting stuff done, and Jasper spent some time tending to the plants.

We spent a fair amount of time cuddling and chilling on the couch.  Saturday night, I I was the pillow for the boys.  Sunday afternoon, Jasper and Chris shared a nap.

The weather was kind of crappy, drizzly and kind of icy (not nearly the catastrophe that was forecasted) so I opted to run inside. I wanted to get a quality long run in, as I haven’t had a good quality long run in a while.  I managed to get all 10 miles in, only stopping twice to refill water and reset the treadmill! 10 miles!

The rest of Sunday was spent relaxing, watching football, and eating pizza.  Have a great week, friends! Stay safe in the wintery weather!
