Thursday Thoughts: May 28

Super quick Thursday Thoughts this week, because the highlight of this past week was definitely going to Hays for the long sisser and birthday and Memorial Day and family weekend!

The second fun new (to me) thing to share with you this week is Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe sea salt spray and sea kelp extract.  I’ve used these products a total of one time, and they not only smell amazing, they make my hair super soft, nice and pretty beach wavy, and they help take away the frizz! Win, win, win.  I can’t wait to use them again and again!Photo May 27, 10 01 56 PM

Last night was the final yoga class with Maylo at Life Spring Yoga.  Most unfortunately, the yoga studio is closing at Life Spring, but I will follow my very favorite Maylo to Lotus Yoga and continue yoga once a week with her.  Last night’s class was an emotional class.  I’ve only been attending yoga at Life Spring since January, but I’ve become very attached to the studio, to my fellow students, and to Maylo.  She’s really become my “yoga mom.”

Tonight is the first KC Running Company’s “Thirsty Thursday,” which will be a KCRC Groupie run followed by drinks at a local brewery! I think Thirsty Thursday will be a monthly Groupie thing; I’m really excited about getting to know the Groupies better!  Also, for anyone who has experienced how awesome KCRC is, I’d love for you to nominate them for one of the best US Running Stores.  They certainly deserve to be recognized for how amazing they are, you can read my top 10 reasons to love KCRC here, and you can nominate them for one of the top 50 running stores in the US here!

Have a safe and fun weekend! Don’t forget your sunscreen if you’re outside, it’s getting warm and sunny!

Thursday Thoughts: February 5

Last Thursday night, I ran with the groupies, and Amy and I had a great run! Our times have been decreasing, which means we are getting stronger!  We had a test run with Hoka One One Bondi 4 shoes.  After my feet and legs got used to the extra cushioning and feeling like I had on moon shoes, I liked them! They are super maximalist shoes, with a HUGE oversized midsole.  I would consider buying a pair for recovery runs someday.  They do have a 2-4 millimeter drop, depending on the shoe, and the toe box is not foot shaped, like Altras, but it was a generous toe box and a comfy shoe.

James and I had a busy weekend, on Saturday we went to Lee’s Summit and went to an archery range to shoot bows.  We had dinner at Spin! Pizza, which was really good!  We hope to hang out with our LS friends again soon.

Then Sunday, Amy and I went to Arrowhead Stadium to volunteer at the Kickoff 5k.  It was lightly snowing, and was cold, but it was really fun to volunteer for KCRC.  I made the amateur mistake of not wearing two pairs of socks, and my toes got super wet and cold, and by the end, my feet were pretty miserable.

After volunteering at the race, I warmed up my toes and decided to try out  my luck at doing a supported headstand, like I did last week at yoga.  I had bought some yoga blocks to help me practice, and I was able to successfully lift up into several block-assisted headstands.  James was happy (at least in my mind!) to take pictures for me, and it helped, because I was able to adjust the placement of my arms to help be more in line.  James even did a couple handstands, kicking up onto the wall.l  I’m really focusing on trying to lift up slowly and with control, to not need the wall.

Progress, not perfection!

I also signed up for yet another race over the weekend.  My mom’s cousin asked me if I was interested in running the Trolley Run at the end of April, and, of course I am! My mom will sign up too, and it’ll be a great weekend!  The Trolley Run is a flat to downhill course, and is a point to point run.  I’ve never run a point to point run, where you’re shuttled to the start and run to the finish.  I’m really looking forward to it; it should be a fast race with a downhill course!

James and I went to Trader Joes, and I caved and bought some cookie butter after seeing so many people on twitter talk about it. It is AMAZING!  James doesn’t think it’s amazing, so he doesn’t get any!  It’ll just be my little treat!

It sleeted and snowed a bit over the weekend, and Jasper kept begging to go outside.  He spent some time outside, and really seemed to like it.  His little paw prints were adorable.  His ears were cold when he came in, but otherwise he loved it!  We started a fire and had a nice and toasty warm evening to end the weekend.

My boys. ❤  I made this picture my phone background, it makes me smile every time I see it.

Tonight, James and I are going to an early screening of the new cross country movie McFarland USA, with the KCRC groupies! KCRC set up an awesome night for us, with appetizers at Old Chicago and then a group screening of the movie!

After a busy couple of days last weekend, I’m looking forward to having a relaxing weekend!

Have you ever tried cookie butter?  Did you love it?

Do you have the same problem as me, you keep signing up for races?

January Roundup

January is a month filled with hope! So many resolutions, goals, and dreams. I hope that feeling of hope that everyone has in January extends through the next 11 months.  I’m going to quickly recap my running in the month of January.

January 1st FUN RUN with Amy!

I previously posted my 2015 running goals, one being to run 1100 miles in 2015. With a month down, I’m happy to report I am right on target, finishing January with 90 miles.  My longest run in January was 8.2 miles, on January 18.  My highest mileage week was the week of January 19-25, with 25.45 miles.  I ran with the KCRC Groupies 5 times in January, and my pace with the group has been getting faster each week.  I completed one race, the Groundhog Run 10k, and PR’d by over a minute!

In addition to running, I began taking a yoga class once a week, and couldn’t be happier with my class and instructor.  I’ve recently been able to do an assisted headstand, which I’m really excited about.  It makes me want to do more and more and get stronger and get to the point where I don’t need to use the blocks!  I am confident that yoga will continue to help my running, my mind, and my body become stronger.

Photo Feb 01, 1 35 51 PMAt the beginning of the year, I posted my One Little Word for 2015, and I feel that so far this year, I’ve taken chances, I’ve been brave and courageous, and am spreading my wings.  I look forward to the next 11 months to reach and exceed my goals!

Did you set any specific goals for January? How are you doing on your resolutions or goals for 2015?  Happy February!
