Thursday Thoughts: May 28

Super quick Thursday Thoughts this week, because the highlight of this past week was definitely going to Hays for the long sisser and birthday and Memorial Day and family weekend!

The second fun new (to me) thing to share with you this week is Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe sea salt spray and sea kelp extract.  I’ve used these products a total of one time, and they not only smell amazing, they make my hair super soft, nice and pretty beach wavy, and they help take away the frizz! Win, win, win.  I can’t wait to use them again and again!Photo May 27, 10 01 56 PM

Last night was the final yoga class with Maylo at Life Spring Yoga.  Most unfortunately, the yoga studio is closing at Life Spring, but I will follow my very favorite Maylo to Lotus Yoga and continue yoga once a week with her.  Last night’s class was an emotional class.  I’ve only been attending yoga at Life Spring since January, but I’ve become very attached to the studio, to my fellow students, and to Maylo.  She’s really become my “yoga mom.”

Tonight is the first KC Running Company’s “Thirsty Thursday,” which will be a KCRC Groupie run followed by drinks at a local brewery! I think Thirsty Thursday will be a monthly Groupie thing; I’m really excited about getting to know the Groupies better!  Also, for anyone who has experienced how awesome KCRC is, I’d love for you to nominate them for one of the best US Running Stores.  They certainly deserve to be recognized for how amazing they are, you can read my top 10 reasons to love KCRC here, and you can nominate them for one of the top 50 running stores in the US here!

Have a safe and fun weekend! Don’t forget your sunscreen if you’re outside, it’s getting warm and sunny!

January Roundup

January is a month filled with hope! So many resolutions, goals, and dreams. I hope that feeling of hope that everyone has in January extends through the next 11 months.  I’m going to quickly recap my running in the month of January.

January 1st FUN RUN with Amy!

I previously posted my 2015 running goals, one being to run 1100 miles in 2015. With a month down, I’m happy to report I am right on target, finishing January with 90 miles.  My longest run in January was 8.2 miles, on January 18.  My highest mileage week was the week of January 19-25, with 25.45 miles.  I ran with the KCRC Groupies 5 times in January, and my pace with the group has been getting faster each week.  I completed one race, the Groundhog Run 10k, and PR’d by over a minute!

In addition to running, I began taking a yoga class once a week, and couldn’t be happier with my class and instructor.  I’ve recently been able to do an assisted headstand, which I’m really excited about.  It makes me want to do more and more and get stronger and get to the point where I don’t need to use the blocks!  I am confident that yoga will continue to help my running, my mind, and my body become stronger.

Photo Feb 01, 1 35 51 PMAt the beginning of the year, I posted my One Little Word for 2015, and I feel that so far this year, I’ve taken chances, I’ve been brave and courageous, and am spreading my wings.  I look forward to the next 11 months to reach and exceed my goals!

Did you set any specific goals for January? How are you doing on your resolutions or goals for 2015?  Happy February!

Thursday Thoughts: January 29

A sentence or two per picture for you on this fine Thursday morning.  Happy Birthday, Kansas, by the way, 154 years young today!

A few weeks ago, James and I sat down and made some business cards for My Brave Wings. I feel so important and official.  I’ll be handing these out to everyone, because I am super official now.Photo Jan 23, 2 59 10 PM

Jazzy is just so dang cute, I could just eat him up. James sent me these pictures the other day, he took them in the morning when he was getting ready for work.

Jasper was not particularly happy about his squirrel on his head, but he didn’t move for several minutes.  This was one evening this week as James and I binge watched the first two seasons of House of Cards, in preparation for the third season which comes out on Netflix at the end of next month.  By the way, if you have Netflix and haven’t seen House of Cards, please stop what you’re doing, go home, and watch it now.  It’s an amazing show.

Sunday, James and I went up to the Hunt Midwest Subtropolis so I could run the Groundhog 10k.  I PR’d my 10k time by over a minute, and the race was an interesting one.  Read my recap here.

I saw these tweets on Monday, by the amazing USA runner and 2014 Boston Marathon winner, Meb Keflezighi, I can’t even imagine, 400-500 miles every 3 weeks.  I don’t even DRIVE that far in 3 weeks.  That’s 17 pairs of running shoes per year, minimum.  Good thing Meb has a sweet shoe sponsor.

It was in the mid-70’s in JANUARY, for part of this week.  70’s, in January.  Jasper and I spent some time on the balcony on Monday afternoon.  Back in Hays, where I’m from, it was a record breaking 86 degrees on Tuesday.  This is as far as Jasper has ventured “out” from the balcony, his front paws and his head through the rails.  I stop him if he tries to go further, which he has only done once.  He doesn’t try to jump up either, but occasionally he looks up like he’s thinking about it.

I came across this adorable must have Nessie Ladle the other day, and it is quite possibly the cutest and best thing ever.  It is a soup ladle in the shape of the Loch Ness Monster, and she even has little feet.  I’ve ordered one of course, but it’s on back order until May.  Read about it here, and order it here.

Last night at yoga, I successfully did my first block assisted headstand  I’ve been going to yoga for 4 weeks now, at Life Spring Yoga in Life Spring Med Spa, and my amazing teacher Maylo has been such a blessing.  I feel so comfortable with her, and the energy she gives just fills me up during class.  I’m confident if I keep going to class, and keep practicing, I’ll be doing unassisted headstands in no time!

This weekend is going to be a busy one.  I’ll run tonight with the Groupies, then  I should get my car back tomorrow, after 2 weeks in the shop after my fender bender accident earlier this month.  I’m excited to drive my own car again, after driving a rental and James’ car for the last 2 weeks.  Saturday, James and I will go visit friends in Lee’s Summit and go to dinner, then Sunday I will volunteer as a course monitor with a friend at the Kick Off 5k at Arrowhead Stadium! I’ll have to fit a couple runs in there too.

Have a fun and safe weekend.  Are you watching the Super Bowl? Who will you be rooting for? Seahawks, Patriots, or Commercials?
