One Year

My my my, how things can change in a year.

A year ago today, I spent most of the day texting back and forth with a boy, the second day I’d spent most of the day texting him.  With flutters in my stomach, I texted this boy and said I was planning on going to an appointment after work, and then I was going to Joe’s KC BBQ.  It was more of a statement than a request for a date, but he agreed to meet me later that evening.

After a delicious dinner and 3 hours of talking, we agreed to meet again on the weekend, to see a movie.  Once the movie was over, we spent another 3-4 hours talking and walking and sharing gelato.  We waited 3 or 4 days before seeing each other again, and from then on, spent nearly every evening together.  We watched a baseball game together, having calzones at Grinders, and shared our first kiss. We had our first run together a week and a half after we met.  He waited for AAA with me when I locked my keys in my car.

We talked and talked and talked.  For two relatively quiet and introverted people, we talked a lot.  Sometime between that first run together and our first 5k together at the end of July, I knew that this boy was something else, and that our relationship was different.  We hadn’t even quite been together for 2 months when I knew our relationship was going somewhere.  We told each other we loved each other, and I felt it in every bone of my body.

Before we knew it, the holidays were upon us. I invited him to Hays for Thanksgiving, and then we planned for me to fly to Detroit after Christmas for the New Year.  We spent 12+ hours driving home on New Years Day, including stopping in Indiana to run, singing and laughing and listening to books on CD, and meeting Chris’ best friends on the way home.  6 days later, on the 6 month anniversary of our meeting, Chris dropped down to one knee and asked me to marry him.  The half year whirlwind of our lives together was just truly starting as I said yes.

Now, 6 months later, we are well on our way to planning our wedding, we just moved in to our new townhome together, and we’ve built our lives around each other. All of  this in just a year.  It feels like so much longer than a year, it’s been a lifetime lived in this year, and I can’t wait for many more years to come.  I honestly couldn’t be any happier than I am with Chris.

4 months from yesterday, we’ll say “I do,” and in 4 months, exactly 16 months after I met that boy at Joe’s KC, we’ll wake up and for the first morning of the rest of our lives, we’ll be husband and wife.

Happy 1st year anniversary, my forever love.

Last week was filled with lots of good runs! Wednesday, I met up with Amy and we had a great run in the chiller weather that was back. The weather over the past few weeks has been so crazy, 40s and 50s, then 80s, then back to chilly again.

After the run Wednesday, Michelle, Chris, and I went to Davids Bridal to look at a bridesmaid dress and Jr. bridesmaid dresses.  I managed to lock my keys in my car, becuase I’m just that talented. After AAA came and got into my car, we had to stop for ice cream.

Thursday, the nice warm weather was back, and Chris and I had a 5 mile run. I spent the last half of the run carrying this bouncy ball I found, and then when I bounced it after the run, I learned it lights up when it bounces. SO FUN!

Saturday morning while Chris was at work, I rearranged the living room and cleaned the place up. I also went through some old race shirts and donated a bunch of them to charity.  It was nice to change the look of the living room a bit and do a little spring cleaning.

My parents picked up their new little fur baby Saturday. World, meet Skye.  She is quite possibly the cutest little chubby puppy ever.  I’ve been getting pictures and videos all weekend, and I can’t wait to meet her!

Sunday morning, Chris and I met up with Erica and ran 10 miles on the trails.  It was chilly, but not raining, and ended up being a really great 10 mile run.  My knee was not very happy at the end of the run, and I was dealing with some chilling and dizziness over the last 3 miles, but we got it done! It was really nice to catch up with Erica a bit and get a solid training run in.

Did you run long this weekend? Are you into “spring cleaning?” Have a great week!

MM: February 27

I can’t believe February is just about over. Where is this year going, already!?  I was pretty terrible at taking pictures once again last week, but I do have a few to share.  Chris and I have been busy wedding planning, and lots of things have been coming together! Our wedding website is here:!

Wednesday was National Margarita Day, apparently, so Chris and I had to partake. Mmm.

About the only other pictures I have are from last week are from the weekend.  Chris’ band had a show Saturday night in Warrensburg, MO.  We cycled in the morning, got lots of errands done during the day, and then drove out to Warrensburg Saturday evening for the show.

It was a great show, and we stayed to watch the band after Chris’ band, and they were really good as well! It was a fun evening, but made for a pretty late night. We actually got home so late that I texted Kristen, who was in Florida, just waking up (very early) to run the Disney Princess Half Marathon, before I went to bed!

Sunday, after sleeping in, Chris and I went out for our long run. It was a bit cooler than I expected, and my shirt could have used some sleeves!  My ankle and foot is still bothering me a bit from when I sprained it at the beginning of the month, but for the most part it’s holding up.

I really don’t have much else to share. Happy March, this week!
