2017: May Running

27 miles. That’s all I managed to run in May.  The theme of the month is knee pain and frustration with the knee pain.

After seeing the orthopedic doctor and my chiropractor several times, I am in less pain now than I started May with, however I also have not had a run in a week and a half, and I haven’t had a substantial run in over 2 weeks. =/  I ran 27 miles in May.  I did other things in May though; I went to 3 cycle classes, a handful of strength classes, and had several walks too.  You can read about my previous months recaps here:  JanuaryFebruaryMarch, and April.

I don’t know how long my running break will be. I’m trying to give my knee the rest it needs, but it’s hard to not run.  All I want to do is run without my knee aching beyond measure.  I’m trying to stay positive and keep believing it will all work out and be okay.

Looking forward to June: I have the Hospital Hill 10k this Saturday, and no other races scheduled. I actually have no races scheduled until September! I’m going to focus on getting my knee healthy and try to be as active as I can while it rehabs.

May stats:
Running:  7 runs, totaling 27 miles.
Biking: 3 cycle classes and 1 bike ride in Hays, totaling 47 miles.
Longest Run: 7 miles, May 13, in Hays, with Kristen, Mom, and Chris
Races: None

MM: April 3

Hello again, happy Monday and happy April!  I didn’t take many pictures last week; I’ve been dealing with some crappy allergies with all this rain we’ve been having lately.

Last Monday was Jasper’s 8th birthday!! He was thrilled to take a picture with me, as always.

After running 10 miles last Sunday, my legs (specifically my knee) were pretty wrecked, so I did a nice 30 minute cycle class. They were definitely feeling fatigued, but better after cycle.

I had this hilarious text convo with Dad last week.

I also played around a little with flowers for my wedding, and came up with this combo, below. I’m pretty thrilled with how well it turned out!  Just over 7 months to go!  theknot.com/us/finallystefani

I found Jazzy’s old tie, and he wore it for a solid 60 seconds yesterday, before pretty much collapsing from the effort of looking so dapper.

Chris made some amazing brats last night, which was perfect on Opening Day.

Not too much else is going on in my world.  Rock the Parkway is this Saturday!  Have a good week!!

2017: February Running

On February 1, I sprained my ankle during the last half mile of my 4 mile run. It got pretty bruised and swollen, and I took just about 10 days off running to let it heal. I did run a mile after 6 days, which initially felt great, but my ankle told me it was too early to be running and I took a few more days off.  I definitely did not run as much as I wanted to in February, but managed to get in 53 miles for the month.  I ran 55 miles in January, you can read all about it here.

After spraining my ankle and not running for a bit, Mom and Dad came down for the 2nd weekend of the month, and we got in a run while Dad biked along; it was the first real run I had since hurting my ankle.

We had some crazy unseasonably warm weather in February, and Chris and had a couple walks/hikes by the lake.  We found this great trail at Shawnee Mission Park that we want to hike, and maybe eventually run – it’s about 3 miles out, and then it ends, so we’d get a 6 mile hike or run out of it.

As far as running goes, I had several good runs, despite my ankle sprain.  Towards the end of the month, my runs have definitely been feeling stronger.  I ran with Chris several times, with KCRC, friends, and Mom and Dad once too… nice variety of running company in February.

I went to a couple cycle classes in February, and I’ve missed them! I need to get back to cycle more often.  Chris went with me, and enjoyed it as well.  We may have a new most-Monday nights tradition!

Looking forward to March, I hope to continue rehabbing my ankle and put in some good quality training runs for the Rock the Parkway half marathon, which is my next race, coming up on April 8.

February stats:
Running: 15 runs, totaling 53 miles.
Cycling: 2 cycle classes, totaling 19 miles.
