February Roundup

As I did of January, and will do each month this year, I’m going to quickly recap my running in February.  I do this to keep myself accountable, and to be able to quickly see my running stats, all in one place.  I do keep my training log and phone tracker up to date, each day, but it’s nice to see it all one one convenient place.

I finished out my February running with 4.5 miles on the treadmill this afternoon. It has been snowing here since early this morning, and isn’t supposed to stop until late tomorrow afternoon.  My total mileage for February is 55 miles.  This is quite a bit lower than I would have wanted, and is definitely lower than the 92 miles I need to average each month to reach my goal of 1100 miles for 2015.

With the 55 miles I ran in February, I am now at 145 miles for the year.  To reach my goal of 1100 miles this year, I will now have to average 95 miles for the remaining 10 months of the year.  With spring right around the corner, I know my runs will be more easily accomplished with extended daylight.  With racing season right around the corner, I know my long runs will become longer, to help me prepare for my half marathons coming up.

February was not a great month, as far as mileage, and I attribute at least a portion of that to the bronchitis I and for about 2 weeks.  I did volunteer at my first race, on February 1, the Kickoff 5k, before the Super Bowl, with my good friend Amy.  I ran with the KCRC Groupies 3 times.  The weather was responsible for canceling a few Groupie runs, and I missed one or two because of my bronchitis.  I was able to run with Mom and Shay once, when James and I went home for a weekend visit.  Photo Feb 02, 10 57 52 AM

I did not have any races in February.  My longest run was 5.5 miles, on February 17, on the treadmill. My highest mileage week was the week of February 2-8, with 25 miles.  I have continued to go to yoga class once a week, though I missed 2 classes due to my bronchitis.  My pace is continuing to get better as each week’s runs are completed.

Saw this fun “What’s your runner name”? quiz chart the other day, and apparently my runner name is Runna MoZapatos.  It’s okay though, you can call me Mo Runna for short.  😉11036205_783345398401922_6601218941890487810_n

I’m ready for the time change in a week, and I’m ready for spring and warmer temperatures.  I’m excited to get my long runs to about 10 miles, which I’m hoping to accomplish in March.  How did you do on your February running and fitness goals?  What’s your “Runner name?”

January Roundup

January is a month filled with hope! So many resolutions, goals, and dreams. I hope that feeling of hope that everyone has in January extends through the next 11 months.  I’m going to quickly recap my running in the month of January.

January 1st FUN RUN with Amy!

I previously posted my 2015 running goals, one being to run 1100 miles in 2015. With a month down, I’m happy to report I am right on target, finishing January with 90 miles.  My longest run in January was 8.2 miles, on January 18.  My highest mileage week was the week of January 19-25, with 25.45 miles.  I ran with the KCRC Groupies 5 times in January, and my pace with the group has been getting faster each week.  I completed one race, the Groundhog Run 10k, and PR’d by over a minute!

In addition to running, I began taking a yoga class once a week, and couldn’t be happier with my class and instructor.  I’ve recently been able to do an assisted headstand, which I’m really excited about.  It makes me want to do more and more and get stronger and get to the point where I don’t need to use the blocks!  I am confident that yoga will continue to help my running, my mind, and my body become stronger.

Photo Feb 01, 1 35 51 PMAt the beginning of the year, I posted my One Little Word for 2015, and I feel that so far this year, I’ve taken chances, I’ve been brave and courageous, and am spreading my wings.  I look forward to the next 11 months to reach and exceed my goals!

Did you set any specific goals for January? How are you doing on your resolutions or goals for 2015?  Happy February!

Thursday Thoughts: January 22

It’s Thursday again, and it’s been quite the exciting week.  Last Friday morning, I was on my way to work when I was in a fender bender car accident.  Needless to say, I didn’t make it to work.  I wasn’t injured, and neither was the other party, but it was quite the experience.  I’d never been in a car accident before, and I am thankful it wasn’t worse.  My car should be fixed up in another week or so, but until then, I’m driving a mini van.  What’s even worse, is that it has Missouri plates! Ahh! I can’t believe I’m driving around giving people the impression that I’m a Missourian.

I couldn’t let another Thursday go by without sharing some pictures of my favorite little furbaby.  When he’s not napping and laying about the house, he’s begging to go outside.  The beautiful 50 and 60 degree weather has allowed him to be outside more than normal lately.  He just loves being out on the balcony, watching birds, listening to all the sounds, sniffing and sniffing and sniffing everything.  I imagine this spring and summer he will be spending a lot of time out there.

It seems he’s also been looking for new places to lay inside. He’s found this little nook in the spare bedroom (why we have a vanity in the spare bedroom, I have no idea, all of the apartments in our complex are that way!).  He’s also been laying under the quilt rack, which I’d never seen him do before.  James and I thought we had lost him somehow, could’t find him anywhere, and he finally came out from under the quilt rack.  I’d imagine it’s nice and quiet and dark under there, a perfect spot for a nap.

Monday, I had a pedicure at Life Spring Med Spa, which was lovely.  I ran one of my longest training runs on Sunday, and also signed up for the Hospital Hill Half Marathon so it was a nice little treat to get my legs and feet massaged, and get some pretty pink polish for the nice spring-like January weather.

I am in love with this cuff bracelet I got over the weekend.  How fitting that Courage is my one little word for 2015, and that With Brave Wings She runs is my own personal mantra.  I just love it.  I’ve worn it every day since I bought it.

This weekend I am running the Groundhog Run 10k,which is all underground, which will be super fun and interesting, and definitely something I’ve never done before!  I believe the race has already raised over $200,000 this year for Children’s TLC, which is just fantastic. I think James will come spectate the race, so hopefully I’ll get some pictures and will write a short recap this weekend or early next week.

How’s the weather where you are? If it’s icy or cold, please be safe! If it’s nice and spring-like, like here in KC, get outside and enjoy the weather!
