MM: January 16

Once again, I didn’t take too many pictures last week! I have a few to share, though.  KC was expected to get hit with a huge ice storm Friday/Saturday/Sunday. I really was getting tired of running on the treadmill so many days in a row, so Chris and I went to KC Running Co. to run outside Thursday night. Brr it was so cold! We got a few miles in before the storm that never really came.

Friday, work let out early (again, because of the ice storms that never actually showed up!) and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to run.  Usually I take Fridays off, so it was a bonus run last week!

Saturday, Chris and I got so much adulting stuff done, and Jasper spent some time tending to the plants.

We spent a fair amount of time cuddling and chilling on the couch.  Saturday night, I I was the pillow for the boys.  Sunday afternoon, Jasper and Chris shared a nap.

The weather was kind of crappy, drizzly and kind of icy (not nearly the catastrophe that was forecasted) so I opted to run inside. I wanted to get a quality long run in, as I haven’t had a good quality long run in a while.  I managed to get all 10 miles in, only stopping twice to refill water and reset the treadmill! 10 miles!

The rest of Sunday was spent relaxing, watching football, and eating pizza.  Have a great week, friends! Stay safe in the wintery weather!

The November Run Down

I’m not really sure how in the world it’s December, but here we are!  November is over, and I finished the month with 88 miles!  I’m at 949 miles for 2016 so far, and I’m right on track (ahead, actually!!!) to run 1000+ miles this year!  I only need 51 miles in December to reach 1000 miles, and as long as nothing catastrophic happens, I’ll easily surpass 1000 for 2016!! Catch up on my January through October recaps here: January, FebruaryMarch, AprilMay, June, JulyAugustSeptember, and October.

November started out warm! I was actually able to run in short sleeves and tank tops for the first half of November.

Chris and I had lots of great runs together, including a really pretty run at Shawee Mission Lake.  The run that day didn’t really feel great for either of us, but it sure was pretty, and we stopped a few times to take in the scenery.  I didn’t make it to any group runs with KC Runing Company in November; I think the time change has really made me want to run as soon as possible after work since it’s dark and chilly now.

I had one race in November, the Longview Half Marathon.  It was chilly that morning, but a pretty run near Longview Lake in south KC.  I was really excited for Mom and her friend Denise to come to KC for Longview, and it was great to see lots of my running club buddies at the race, too!

I was really happy to be able to go home for Thanksgiving, and to take Chris home with me.  Mom, Kristen, Chris and I ran on Thanksgiving morning, I did some solo Black Friday miles, and then Chris and I had a long run Saturday with Mom joining us for part before coming back to KC on Sunday.

It’s gotten pretty cold here over the last week or so. I finished out the last day of November with 5 chilly miles in the dark after work.  Looking forward to December, I have 0 races, and I’m excited about that! I’m hoping I can get in a solid month of miles, and enjoy the holidays.  I’m going to do my damned best to not have any pop or sweets from today until I go home for Christmas… who’s with me? It’s going to be tough with all the holiday parties and sweets, but I’m going to try!

November Run-Down:
Running: 20 runs, totaling 88 miles.
Cycling: 1 cycle class, 45 minutes, totaling 10 miles
Longest Run: 8 miles, November 26, in Hays.
Races: Longview Half Marathon

Monday Mentionings: November 21

Good morning friends! Happy Thanksgiving week, for those of you traveling or having family and friends travel, be safe and enjoy your time with loved ones!

Last Monday night, I went with Chris to the recording studio that his band has been using to record a song, to hang out while they finished something up.  Afterwards, we wanted ice cream, and I asked Siri where to get some ice cream, and the response she gave is below.  Weirdo.

Tuesday, after work, I made a yummy and easy dessert for Friday’s “dip food day” that we had at work.  It was a cherry cheesecake dip, and it went over great! Recipe below:

  • 8 oz. Greek yogurt cream cheese, softened.
  • 10 oz. non-dairy whipped topping.
  • 1 c. plan nonfat Greek yogurt.
  • 1/2 c. sweetened condensed milk
  • 21 oz. can of cherry pie filling.

  1. Beat together cream cheese and non-dairy whipped topping until well combined.
  2. Mix in greek yogurt and sweetened condensed milk until combined.
  3. Spread into dish.
  4. Top with cherry pie filling.
  5. Chill until ready to serve.
  6. Serve with graham crackers or vanilla wafers.

Thursday night, Chris’ band had a show in Westport.  They did great!  I can’t wait to see them play again Dec. 10 (here) and Dec. 17 (here)! If you’re in the KC area, you should come out and watch!

Friday, it got COLD! It was like 60 or 70 degrees all week, then a huge cold front came in, and it was in the 40s Friday.  Saturday morning, it felt like 24 degrees, but Chris and I went out and had a beautiful and chilly run anyway.

Later, we ran a few errands, and also visited The Container Store (for the first time ever)! It was such a great store, we will definitely be back.  After errands, we saw Dr. Strange, which was pretty good!

I’m really excited for Kristen and Thayne to fly in, and Chris will also join us to make the trip home!  Happy Thanksgiving!
