Monday Mentionings: January 4

Good morning and Happy New Year!!

Last Monday, I ended up staying in Hays because of the icy roads between Junction City and Kansas City.  I took advantage of the extra time in Hays by going to the gym with Dad and Kristen. Kristen and I ran while dad biked, then we all lifted upper body, per Kristen’s instructions.

Later on Monday, I spent some time with Grandma, Granddad, and Tiger, then had dinner with my family and my brother in law’s family. It was a really nice end to the long holiday weekend.

Tuesday morning, I drove back to KC, and worked in the afternoon. Jazzy was happy to be home and back to his normal schedule, which includes playing with the light on the wall.

For New Years Eve, I went to Amy’s and spent the evening with her and her family. We had Mi Ranchito takeout, ice cream, and sparking wine. Amy and I rang in the new year, and it was a perfect way to bring in the New Year.

Bright and early on New Year’s Day… ok not so early, it was about 10:00, Amy and I went to the New years day fun run put on by KC Track Club. This was the same run we went to last New Year’s Day.  We were even able to re-create the picture we took last year.  Amy and I were friends for about 6 weeks before the pic on the left, but I think our New Years run was one of the monumental events that really solidified our best friendship.

Unfortunately, the trails are very icy in places, and we were only able to run about 2 miles. It was a lot of fun, and a great way to start the new year. Now that we’ve done it twice in a row, I think it’s our new New Year’s tradition.

After we cleaned up, Michelle came over, and we went to BRGR to eat burgers for lunch, and then headed to Crown Center for ice-skating!!

Ice skating with these two was so much fun! Michelle had never ice-skated before, and this was only my second time.  Amy has ice-skated several times before; she was a pro! I only slept and fell once, and I wasn’t even skating at the time, I was laughing at Michelle, hanging onto the wall, slipped and fell. Clearly, that shouldn’t count!

While we were down town, we went to union station, and I bought the Royals World Series celebration print. Later, I framed it and hung it in my spare bedroom. It’s a great picture, and a really nice way to remember that amazing day.

This afternoon, I meet with a sports Doctor about the pain behind my knee. I’ve been seeing the chiropractor, but I think it’s time to see a specialist and see a really what’s going on. I have 3 half marathons to train for the next six months, and I’m really tired of dealing with this pain. My fingers are crossed!

I saw this photo on Facebook last night, and it made me really happy! Go Royals! Go Chiefs! I know (after googling it) that the Chief’s’ win streak started Oct. 25, but still, they’ve been defeated since Nov. 1!

I hope everyone had a really great New Year, so far I’m off to a good start, and I can’t wait to reach my goals this year!

Thanksgiving Pictures!

My long Thanksgiving weekend was filled with family, friends, food, football, and freezing temps!  Alliteration aside, I had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  It was a perfect, low key, loving Thanksgiving, and I’m sad the weekend went so quickly, but I couldn’t have asked for a better time.

Wednesday, I got off work a bit early for the holiday, so I went home to grab my bag and Jazzy.  Kristen and Thayne had flown in the night before, so we all hopped in the car and drove to Hays!

We made two stops once we got into Hays, before going to Mom and Dad’s.  The first was Taco Grande, and the second was Cervs, for a snoball.

Thursday morning, while Mom was cooking away in the kitchen, and Kristen was baking away at some pies (I assisted in both, but just barely), I met up with Michelle, and we stopped at Cervs for what?  A snoball!  We got lots of hugs from Maja, and lots of sugar from our snoballs.

I’m sad this is the only photo I took at Thanksgiving dinner, but I am so thankful for this meal with Mom, Dad, Kristen, Thayne, Grandma, and Granddad.  It was perfect.  Not seen, but also eaten, was a piece of cherry pie, and a piece of pumpkin streusel cake.  Mmmmmm!

Later on Thanksgiving night, my dinner was another piece of pumpkin streusel cake, and Jazzy had a bit of the whipped cream.

Overall, Jasper got along pretty well with Mom and Dad’s critters.  Gordon, Lucy, and Jasper tolerated each other, from a distance, and Jasper is kind of in love with Shay’s scent, rolling all over her pillow and where she likes to lay on the floor, but pretty much left Shay alone.

Friday morning, we met Leann and Ava at the movie theatre, and watched Good Dinosaur.  Super cute movie, reminded me of The Lion King and The Land Before Time.

After the movie, Mom and Kristen and I went to Hays Rec to run and workout, because the roads were icy.  4 miles on the treadmill, followed by a bit of weight lifting.

Later on Friday night, after a most interesting trip to Cervs (yes, again) and the liquor store, we ate delicious homemade pizza and sat by the fire.

After pizza was a spirited game of Candyland.  Mom won in about 5 minutes, and then Ava and I battled for a while.

Oh Jazzy.  🙂

Saturday, it was still super cold, but the ice was gone.  Mom, Kristen, and I did a little small business Saturday shopping, then Mom and I bundled up for a run.  Brr is all I can say.  Kristen went out a bit later and ran too, and man, it was a chilly one.

Saturday night, we ate at a newish Mexican restaurant with Steve, Leann, and Ava, then went bowling!

It’s been a really long time since I bowled!  The “kids” got to bowl with the bumpers, and the parents bowled without bumpers.  I hate to admit this, but Ava beat me the first game!  That stinker may have a bit of her Daddy’s bowling talent!  Not to worry, I beat her the second game, but still came in after Thayne and Kristen.

Early early EARLY Sunday morning, Jazzy, Kristen, Thayne, and I hit the road back to KC.  We had tickets to watch the Chiefs play at noon, so we had to cut the Hays part of Thanksgiving a bit short to get to KC in time.

The weather was generally crappy for the entire Thanksgiving weekend, either cold, or raining, or freezing rain, or drizzle… but the weather for the game was probably the worst.  Cold, with drizzle and rain the entire time.  I’m really glad Mom and Dad sent three ponchos with us, but I wish I would have bought some foot warmers too.

It was my very first Chiefs game, and overall, it was a lot of fun.  I wish the weather was not so wet, but it was a fun time, and the Chiefs even won!

I had to switch ponchos with Thayne, because he tried on the yellow poncho, and his head with hat and 2 hoods wouldn’t fit! With my one hat and ear warmer, my head fit just fine, so I got to be mustard instead of ketchup.

After the game, Kristen and I made chicken noodle soup to warm up, and I got to spend a few more hours with Kristen and Thayne before their late flight back home.

Jasper was so tired and worn out from the long weekend and from time in the car earlier on Sunday, that he actually tolerated Thayne stacking all 46 of his toys on him.  For anyone who knows Jasper, this was likely a very rare occurrence.. he does not usually like this sort of thing!

All in all, it was a most wonderful Thanksgiving.  I’m so thankful for everyone in my life, and for the time we were able to spend together.

My heart is full.

Monday Mentionings: November 30

Hi everyone! I have a really (really really) quick Monday Mentionings today!  I was home in Hays for the long Thanksgiving weekend, and just got back to town in time on Sunday to go to my very first Chiefs game! Needless to say, after traveling, time at home, the Chiefs, then taking my sister and brother-in-law to the airport, I was beat!

I’ll write a post sometime this week and share my Thanksgiving, and since it’s the last day of the month, I need to recap my running month as well, so be ready for several posts this week!

Lots of snoballs were had in Hays, and I’m so glad I got to see Maja, and I even got to see Michelle! Crazy how we drive all the way to Hays to see each other. 😉

Jasper enjoyed his second Thanksgiving traveling to Hays… he got along with Mom and Dad’s kitties and Shay pretty well, the whole group isn’t the best of friends, but they aren’t enemies either… I think.  Jasper enjoyed lots of treats, running up and down the stairs, rolling on Shay’s pillow, and lots of car time.

Saturday night, we got to eat and hang out with my uncle and his family, so we had some yummy mexican food, then bowling! It’s been ages since I last bowled, and I didn’t quite win… my 8 year old cousin even beat me one of the games!  It was a ton of fun, and a great way to spend some much needed family time together.

As I said above, Sunday, I went to my first ever Chiefs game.  Kristen and her husband’s family had planned to go to the Chiefs and Bills game, so they invited me along.  It was cold and rainy, but we bundled up, and besides our feet, we all stayed fairly warm and dry.  I had a blast, and the Chiefs even won!

Photo Nov 29, 3 12 54 PM

Sunday night, Kristen and I made chicken noodle soup, then Thayne attempted and succeeded at putting all 46 (OMG! Jasper has way too many toys!) of Jasper’s toys on him.  Jasper was so tired from the weekend, and car trip, that he did not care at all what Thayne did!

I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving.  More to come!
