Monday Mentionings: November 28

Good morning and happy Monday! I had the most wonderful Thanksgiving weekend, most of the photos I have to share this week are from Thanksgiving in Hays. Monday and Tuesday, I ran with Amy and with Chris, respectively.  It’s dark before I get off work now, so running is done by the light of our headlamps.

Kristen, Thayne, Chris, and I loaded up in the car and drove home Wednesday after work.  It was a fun car ride, and it was nice for Kristen and Thayne to get to know Chris a little.  Thursday  morning, Mom, Kristen, Chris and I ran before our Thanksgiving meal. We joked with Chris that he didn’t get the “wear gray and a hat” memo.

After our run, before dinner, we got snoballs! Mmmm!!!

Thanksgiving dinner was wonderful. Grandma and Granddad came over, and we ate a beautiful dinner of turkey ham, macaroni corn, dressing, rolls, and apple salad.  There was mashed potatoes and gravy too, but I didn’t partake in that.  Kristen had made 3 delicious pies before we went home Wednesday, so we also had pecan, apple, and sweet potato pies.  It was so great to spend time with everyone, it was such a great day.

Friday morning, I ran a few miles solo, before running some errands with Kristen, Thayne, and Chris.

We took Chris to Taco Shop for the first time! We also hung out with Ava a bit and did some shopping.  We didn’t do any big Black Friday shopping, but did check out some local stores in Hays.  Dad scored a great deal on a TV, and the story was pretty funny, listening to them tell how they beat the crowds and cheated some lines was pretty comical.

Friday afternoon, just as the sun was setting, we went out to Munjor to visit Grandma and Grandpa at the cemetery.  Kristen took this picture, and it was really pretty out there, and so very quiet.

Saturday, late in the morning, Chris and I headed out for our long run, and Mom joined us for part of it.  At our turnaround point, Chris saw his very first real life tumbleweed.  He said “it’s literally tumbling across the road” and I about lost it laughing.  We had to take a picture, to always remember this monumental event.  I ended up running 8 miles and Chris ran 7.  It was a much nicer run than last week’s long run, which was just a rough run for both of us.

Saturday night, we went to the Q for burgers, and that’s about all I need to say. So. Good.

photo-nov-26-6-25-04-pm

We hung out Saturday night, put up the Christmas tree at home, watched some TV, and Chris played his guitar for everyone.  Earlier Saturday, he also played it for Grandma and Granddad; we spent some time with them before they went to the FHSU basketball game.  I really enjoyed the extra time and being able to spend time with everyone.

Sunday morning, the 4 of us headed back to KC, for Kristen and Thayne to catch their flight.  I put up a few Christmas decorations at home when we got back, and was able to relax the rest of the evening.

I really hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving with family and friends.  It’s so hard to believe that December is this week!

Pictures from Hays

I’m not sure how it’s Friday already! I was in Hays last weekend for the long holiday weekend.  I was lucky enough to take my 2 best friends with me for the weekend.  I meant to have this post on Monday, or Tuesday at the latest, but the week has gotten away from me!

So Friday after work, we packed up and headed to Hays!

One of my favorite sights, the Hays exit!

We had to stop at the Hays sign.

Our attempt at a squatting picture, hah!

Saturday morning was the  Wild West 5k! It was rainy and actually cool (for July).  Michelle busted out a huge PR, and Amy was only  seconds away from her PR.  I survived it, dealing with some knee/calf pain, and Mom did great!

I don’t even know.  This just kind of happened, and we are all lucky enough that Amy got it on my phone.

Next up, SNOBALLS!!!

After snoballs, we went to the Q for lunch.  Mmmmmmm that Q burger really hit the spot.

Saturday night, we hung out at home and had pizza for dinner.  Then Sunday morning, Mom, Amy, and I headed out for 5 miles.  We ran by this little farm that has horses, and Mom packed some carrots for us to feed to them. Amy was terrified at first, but made friends fast.

Post 5 mile run fun.

Later Sunday afternoon, Mom, Dad, and I took Amy to Sternberg.  She had fun, even though she’s not a huge museum person.  We had fun walking through the museum and seeing the exhibits.

After the museum we went down to Frontier Park to check out the stepping stones and swinging bridge.

After dinner we had s’mores, and listened to hundreds of dollars of fireworks being blown up by neighbors.

Monday morning, we went for a short little run, and it was warm, but drizzly.

After our run, the sun came out and it warmed up.  We drove around in the bug, got another snoball, and hit up Taco Shop for lunch!

Then Monday afternoon, it was time to get back to KC.  We got some snoballs for the road, and headed back home!

It was such a fun weekend, and the time flew by, as it always does.  I’m so glad I could make this trip with Michelle and Amy!  Can’t wait til my next trip home.

Monday Mentionings: May 30

What a week! I can’t believe it’s Monday again, let alone Memorial Day! Happy Memorial Day to everyone, thank you to all who have served.

Last Monday, I ended up having to stay at work a bit longer to help a client on the phone.  I missed going to cycle class, so I headed out for 4 solo miles instead.  It’s been raining so much lately, and it was pretty humid, so I had a few minutes after my run in the shade of this gigantic and beautiful tree.

The tree was just so gorgeous in the sunlight.

Tuesday night, Amy and I ran a few miles, and then I relaxed with Jasper.  I also had a bit of reflection about my last day of my 20s, because Wednesday, I was going to turn 3o!

Photo May 24, 9 02 27 PM

Wednesday was my birthday!  I ran with Amy in the morning, had a carrot cake at work, and had dinner and went to a painting class with Amy and Michelle after work. It was the perfect day!

Photo May 25, 8 10 38 PM

I also got my new medal holder in the mail this past week.  My previous medal holder was full! I ended up putting all my half marathon medals on the opposite wall.  Now I have lots of new spots to fill up on my new holder!  Both of the medal holders are from Running on the Wall.  I love how everything turned out.Photo May 29, 8 49 27 PM.jpg

Friday, after work, I drove home to Hays for the long weekend.  This sight will always mean I’m home.

Photo May 27, 7 28 25 PM

Saturday morning, I headed out for 5 solo miles, before Mom joined me for the final 2 miles.  I hoped to run 8 miles, but I was pretty wiped out after my 5 miles, and only managed 2 more! Half marathon #10 is in less than a week!  Anyway, while I was running, I ran a bit on the bypass, and had to stop and take a selfie with the horses.

Photo May 28, 9 35 58 AM

After we were finished, we took Shay on a short little walk.  She’s been limping with a sore back leg, so she can’t run with us, but she sure wanted to.

Photo May 28, 10 54 06 AM

After our run, I finally got my snoball! YAS!  Cervs is the best.

Photo May 28, 11 25 30 AM

Mom and I had lunch with Ava at The Q, another of Hays’ best.  We went topless in Mom and Dad’s bug.

Photo May 28, 2 22 37 PM

Saturday night, we went to Jalisco’s for my birthday dinner.  I was able to stretch my birthday through the weekend!  I was even given a birthday shot, wahoo! HAH!

Photo May 29, 8 28 29 PM

Sunday morning, Mom and I ran a few miles, and then took Shay for a short walk.  Sweet girl.  After our run and walk, Mom and I went to the cemetery in Munjor.   Something amazing that happened: So last fall, Mom put an electronic solitaire game out at Grandpa’s grave, because he loved playing his solitaire game.  While we were at the cemetery yesterday, we rearranged some things, and Mom picked up the solitaire game, and it started dinging the WIN WIN WIN sound, and even showed the WIN on the screen.  It has been oustide in the cold, snow, and in the hot, rain, wind, dirt, for over 6 months, and the dang thing turned on, and had a WIN!  I guess Grandpa’s been playing solitaire out there. =)

Photo May 29, 11 09 43 AM

Sunday afternoon, we watched the Royals win (for the third straight game of being down and coming back in the last few innings!!)  Mom and Dad were cooking/grilling for dinner, but first, Belle and I went to get a snoball on Sunday afternoon.  Mmmmm. So good!

Photo May 29, 5 21 33 PM

Grandma and Granddad came over to eat burgers, brats, corn on the cob, and cheesy potatoes.  MMMM!!! So much great food over the weekend.  Granddad had fun playing with my snapchat.   Love this so much.

Photo May 29, 7 20 07 PM

After dinner, Michelle came over (her parents live at the opposite end of the same block as my parents), and Steve, Leann, and Ava came over too, for dessert.  When it was time for Belle to go home, we went topless in the bug again for a little joy ride!

It was the perfect end to a wonderful weekend, and the best way to end a birthday week! I’ll be going home this afternoon, and already can’t wait to come back again for the 4th of July! Did you have a nice Memorial Day weekend? Have a great week!
