Monday Mentionings: January 25

A whole month has passed since Christmas.  Where on earth does the time go?  I have not been too great at taking photos this last month, so I don’t have a lot to share with you today.  The winter weather, cold, grey, and icy, makes for a hibernating Renee, apparently.

Jasper has been a playful little bear lately.

The lake at work was frozen over for most of last week.  The geese spent some time sitting on the ice, then a few days later it was all covered in a layer of snow.

I’ve still been going to cycling classes.  I was able to start running again last week, and unfortunately, my knee pain came back.  I see the Orthopedic doctor again this morning to see what else may be going on.  In the mean time, I’ve had about three weeks of cycling classes, and really enjoy them!! I even had a couple people ask about me when I showed up to Saturday morning’s class, they wanted to make sure I was coming! Talk about making me feel welcome. =)

I ran outside twice over the weekend, both times with Amy.  It felt fan-freaking-tastic to get back out on the roads with Amy.  Saturday morning was a chilly one, we had to bundle up quite a bit and had ac coupe matching bank robber masks on.   We ran again on Sunday morning, and unfortunately the snowy sidewalks slowed us down and cut down our mileage a bit.  Later on Sunday, it warmed up nicely, and the sun came out.  I think most of the snow has melted, which will be great for running this week.

Saturday, I ran some errands, got my oil changed, and then did my taxes! This is the first year I’ve done them all by myself, and it was a heck of a lot easier than I thought it would be.  I even get a refund!  Sunday, I cleaned the bathroom and kitchen, bought groceries, and got a lot of cleaning done around the house.  I hereby declare the weekend an adulting success!  I don’t really think Jasper was as angry as he looks in this picture – I think it was the front flash on my phone that made him squint and put his ears back.  At least, that’s what I’ll continue to believe.

These memes have been going around on Facebook over the last several days, so I may as well share mine.  You can make your own here.

Have a great week, folks!

Thursday Thoughts: Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!!  I hope everyone enjoys a relaxing day with family and friends, and NOT shopping! Shopping is for Friday, folks!  I do wish you and yours the happiest and merriest of Thanksgivings, enjoy the time with the ones you love.

Last weekend, James and I went to the clubhouse at our apartment complex, and had a chili lunch, it was really tasty.  It’s been quite a while since either of us had chili. They were missing the cinnamon rolls though! I think it must be a German thing, having cinnamon rolls with chili.  I’ll have to tell them for next time. 😉Photo Nov 22, 12 30 59 PM

On Saturday, I ran a loop that included stopping by the little pond where my buddy Edgar the Swan lives.  I didn’t really know if swans migrate like geese, so I figured I’d run by and see if he was still hanging around.  He was.  He wasn’t happy to be sharing his little pond with a bunch of migrating Canadian Geese.  He was sure to chase me and bite at the rocks.

The geese were sure to stay on the other side of the pond, away from Edgar.  When Edgar tried to follow after me, the geese took off and landed on the other side of the pond, and then flip flopped it again as he followed me back up the path.  I was lucky enough to get a picture of a goose flying/running away from Edgar.

Jasper and Toothless.  This picture makes me giggle with glee.  I put Toothless on top of Jazzy’s cube, out of the way, and later Jasper curled up underneath.  Adorable.

Also adorable… when Jasper doesn’t realize his tongue is sticking out while he’s sleeping.

As a surprise to take home for Thanksgiving, I baked my very first 2 pies this week!  I have baked pies before, but it’s always been under Kristen and Mom’s instruction.  Kristen has taught me Grandma’s pie crust over the last few holidays, and I was really glad to be able to replicate it.

Aside from burning the crusts a little bit, and having to throw out the first batch of pie crust because it was too dry and flaky, I think they turned out pretty good, and hopefully they taste good too!  Cherry pie is my very favorite kind of pie. I can’t wait to have some this weekend with both sides of my family.
