MM: August 21

Hello! Happy Monday, and happy Solar Eclipse day!  At the end of last week, I got my stitches out, which I was very happy about! It’d been just over 3 weeks since the first surgery, and I was ready to have them out, for sure.

Friday night, Chris and I went to the Royals game with a bunch of RTS work friends. RTS hosted a tailgate and then we all went in to watch the Royals. It was great to hang out and see a Friday night game, complete with summer fireworks at the end.

The stairs, on crutches, sucked bad.  My arms were killing me by the time we got up to our seats.  Ugh, quite the workout. Luckily, I didn’t have to go down until the end of the game. If I would have had to use the restroom or something halfway through, it’s very possible we just would have gone home because all those stairs were not cool.

Saturday consisted of running errands and then relaxing at home. Jasper chooses Chris to cuddle with 97% of the time. He loves Chris so very much. Chris and I have been watching Ozark on Netflix, anyone else? It’s kind of confusing (we are in the middle episodes, I think we’ve watched 6 so far) but interesting and I want to find out what happens.

Sunday morning I was able to bike for 40 minutes! I’m able to pseudo-bike – I can peddle with only my good leg, per the doctor and my physical therapists. My left leg can simply go through the rotations. It’s more difficult than you’d think to only peddle with one leg, but the cages on the peddles help.  I didn’t go far, and I didn’t go fast, and there was no resistance, but it felt good to be able to cycle a bit.

Looking forward to this week, I hope to see the eclipse today, and then Chris’ band has a show Friday – if you’re not doing anything, come up to St. Joe and watch them play at Cafe Acoustic Friday night.

Have a great week! PSA: Don’t look directly at the sun!

MM: July 17

Hello! It’s been a while! Life has been a little crazy lately! Between traveling to Hays and Detroit, celebrating birthdays, finishing packing and then actually moving and unpacking, it’s been a while since I’ve been able to post. I’m back!

We are all moved in to our new home, everything is unpacked and in it’s place. It is so nice to have Chris’ stuff out of storage, and to have combined all our stuff in a larger and better space.  We are also about 30 feet from one of the properties pools, which is SO nice.  I’ve been doing a lot of pool running to help rehab my knee, and to try to keep some fitness while not running.

My surgery is scheduled for a week from tomorrow… I’m a bit anxious about it, especially since the last couple weeks, my knee hasn’t been hurting at all. I even ran 2 miles last week, trying it out, and had no pain until after a mile in.  I know I need to go through with it, but it’s frustrating that now the surgery is scheduled and I haven’t been having pain.

Chris and I have been biking a bit more these past few weeks, a couple weeks ago we biked about 10 miles around our new neighborhood, and yesterday, we biked at the gym in the cycle studio because it was just so dang hot out.

My parents were in town a couple weekends ago, we spent a lot of time eating at lots of our favorite places, we visited my favorite bike store and Mom and Dad got some sweet new bikes, and we chilled by the pool for a while too.

Jasper and Chris have the cutest little relationship. Jasper loves him so much and is constantly jumping on him to cuddle, way more than with me. Be still, my heart.

Jasper has been enjoying his new backyard area, exploring and sniffing and watching birds and is pretty happy. We had to cat-proof a few areas of the fence; the first time he was out there he snuck right into the next door neighbor’s backyard. I think all the holes and gaps are covered, now.

Friday night, Chris’ band played in a Battle of the Bands. All the bands were really good! Chris’ band didn’t make it to the next round, but it was still lots of fun to go and watch everyone play.

We used our new grill for the first time last night! We grilled hamburgers and corn on the cob. It’s nice to be able to grill outside instead of using our George Foreman grill inside every time we want something grilled.

The Detroit Tigers are in town this week, and Chris and I will be going Thursday to cheer dem Roys on. 😛

Have a great week, friends!

2017: May Running

27 miles. That’s all I managed to run in May.  The theme of the month is knee pain and frustration with the knee pain.

After seeing the orthopedic doctor and my chiropractor several times, I am in less pain now than I started May with, however I also have not had a run in a week and a half, and I haven’t had a substantial run in over 2 weeks. =/  I ran 27 miles in May.  I did other things in May though; I went to 3 cycle classes, a handful of strength classes, and had several walks too.  You can read about my previous months recaps here:  JanuaryFebruaryMarch, and April.

I don’t know how long my running break will be. I’m trying to give my knee the rest it needs, but it’s hard to not run.  All I want to do is run without my knee aching beyond measure.  I’m trying to stay positive and keep believing it will all work out and be okay.

Looking forward to June: I have the Hospital Hill 10k this Saturday, and no other races scheduled. I actually have no races scheduled until September! I’m going to focus on getting my knee healthy and try to be as active as I can while it rehabs.

May stats:
Running:  7 runs, totaling 27 miles.
Biking: 3 cycle classes and 1 bike ride in Hays, totaling 47 miles.
Longest Run: 7 miles, May 13, in Hays, with Kristen, Mom, and Chris
Races: None
