Monday Mentionings: May 30

What a week! I can’t believe it’s Monday again, let alone Memorial Day! Happy Memorial Day to everyone, thank you to all who have served.

Last Monday, I ended up having to stay at work a bit longer to help a client on the phone.  I missed going to cycle class, so I headed out for 4 solo miles instead.  It’s been raining so much lately, and it was pretty humid, so I had a few minutes after my run in the shade of this gigantic and beautiful tree.

The tree was just so gorgeous in the sunlight.

Tuesday night, Amy and I ran a few miles, and then I relaxed with Jasper.  I also had a bit of reflection about my last day of my 20s, because Wednesday, I was going to turn 3o!

Wednesday was my birthday!  I ran with Amy in the morning, had a carrot cake at work, and had dinner and went to a painting class with Amy and Michelle after work. It was the perfect day!

I also got my new medal holder in the mail this past week.  My previous medal holder was full! I ended up putting all my half marathon medals on the opposite wall.  Now I have lots of new spots to fill up on my new holder!  Both of the medal holders are from Running on the Wall.  I love how everything turned out.Photo May 29, 8 49 27 PM.jpg

Friday, after work, I drove home to Hays for the long weekend.  This sight will always mean I’m home.

Saturday morning, I headed out for 5 solo miles, before Mom joined me for the final 2 miles.  I hoped to run 8 miles, but I was pretty wiped out after my 5 miles, and only managed 2 more! Half marathon #10 is in less than a week!  Anyway, while I was running, I ran a bit on the bypass, and had to stop and take a selfie with the horses.

After we were finished, we took Shay on a short little walk.  She’s been limping with a sore back leg, so she can’t run with us, but she sure wanted to.

After our run, I finally got my snoball! YAS!  Cervs is the best.

Mom and I had lunch with Ava at The Q, another of Hays’ best.  We went topless in Mom and Dad’s bug.

Saturday night, we went to Jalisco’s for my birthday dinner.  I was able to stretch my birthday through the weekend!  I was even given a birthday shot, wahoo! HAH!

Sunday morning, Mom and I ran a few miles, and then took Shay for a short walk.  Sweet girl.  After our run and walk, Mom and I went to the cemetery in Munjor.   Something amazing that happened: So last fall, Mom put an electronic solitaire game out at Grandpa’s grave, because he loved playing his solitaire game.  While we were at the cemetery yesterday, we rearranged some things, and Mom picked up the solitaire game, and it started dinging the WIN WIN WIN sound, and even showed the WIN on the screen.  It has been oustide in the cold, snow, and in the hot, rain, wind, dirt, for over 6 months, and the dang thing turned on, and had a WIN!  I guess Grandpa’s been playing solitaire out there. =)

Sunday afternoon, we watched the Royals win (for the third straight game of being down and coming back in the last few innings!!)  Mom and Dad were cooking/grilling for dinner, but first, Belle and I went to get a snoball on Sunday afternoon.  Mmmmm. So good!

Grandma and Granddad came over to eat burgers, brats, corn on the cob, and cheesy potatoes.  MMMM!!! So much great food over the weekend.  Granddad had fun playing with my snapchat.   Love this so much.

After dinner, Michelle came over (her parents live at the opposite end of the same block as my parents), and Steve, Leann, and Ava came over too, for dessert.  When it was time for Belle to go home, we went topless in the bug again for a little joy ride!

It was the perfect end to a wonderful weekend, and the best way to end a birthday week! I’ll be going home this afternoon, and already can’t wait to come back again for the 4th of July! Did you have a nice Memorial Day weekend? Have a great week!

My Birthday in Pictures

Wednesday I turned 30! 30!! I had a fantastic day filled with love.  I have lots of pictures to share!

My 30th birthday started with 3 miles with Amy! Unfortunately, we took our run inside, because it had been storming all night.  We had a nice 3.0 mile run for my 3.0. See what I did there. =P

I was surprised at work with a carrot cake (one of my favorite kinds of cake) and a card filled with birthday wishes from my coworkers.  Yes, I had carrot cake for breakfast.  It was my birthday, so it was perfectly acceptable.

After work, Amy and Michelle and I went to dinner at Jose Peppers.  Margaritas, nachos, and queso.  Perfection.

After dinner, we went to Grapes and Paints for a wine and painting class.  I had some birthday wine, and we sat down to paint a cherry blossom tree at dusk.

So, before I show you my painting, this one was displayed in the studio.  It looks EXACTLY like Jasper! I am going to keep my eyes open and see if they have this one coming up.

Ok, the suspense is over, here’s my cherry blossom painting!

Our paintings! They are all so different, which I just love! We had so much fun!

I had some good snuggles with Jasper after I got home.  It was a perfect end to a great birthday.

Last night, I hung up my painting next to my other two tree paintings that I’ve done in the past.  As long as you stay several feet away, they don’t look terrible! haha! The closer you get, the more obvious it is that I am not a skilled artist!

I’m so excited to go home this evening and spend the long weekend with my parents.   Thank you so much to everyone who wished me happy birthday.  I truly appreciate all the love from everyone!

The Sport Bud Single Earbud

Ok guys, I’ve found a wonderful product, and want to share my thoughts with you!  I’ve had the opportunity to try out the Sport Bud Single Earbud, from the makers of the Buddy Pouch! You all know how much I love my Buddy Pouch, and this product is just as awesome!  I am a Buddy Pouch Ambassador, but I was not paid by Running Buddy for this review, the opinions in this review are my own.

I’ve gone back and forth with using music while running.  For a very long time, I did not run with music.  Over the last couple months, I’ve started using music occasionally on my runs.  One of the biggest challenges of running or exercising with music is finding ear buds or earphones that stay put, sound decent, and work consistently.  Well, I’ve found them, and they are the Sport Earbuds.

My very favorite part about this ear bud is that it’s a single earbud!  There is only 1 ear bud, not 2.  Why not 2, you ask? For safety!  With only one ear bud, you can still hear things around you, traffic, conversations, wildlife, other runners/bikers, etc.  It’s a very good practice to only use one ear bud while you are listening to music while running or biking, or even walking.  You need to be able to hear your surroundings!  Instead of tucking the extra earbud in your sports bra, or having it flop all over the place, you don’t have to worry about it at all because it’s not there!

Photo May 23, 8 44 37 PM

Another of my favorite parts of this earbud is that it can be used in either ear.  The actual ear bud is on a swivel, how brilliant! You simply hook the fantastic over the ear piece over your ear, and stick the ear bud in your ear, and you’re set! This product comes with 6 sizes of ear bud plastic pieces, so you can find the size that fits comfortably in your ear.

It also has a microphone, which is pretty much a must have for earbuds these days.  Between actually using it for a phone call or changing your music, it is super handy to have the mic right there on the wire.  There is also a handy clip that you can attach and clip onto your shirt or sports bra.  I typically string the wire through my sports bra strap so it doesn’t flop around, but this is another easy way to keep it in place and keep enough slack in the wire.

I have had a handful of runs with the Sport Bud, and have found it to be super comfortable.  It doesn’t slip around or fall out of my ear, even though I sweat a ton.  Other earbuds will slip around or end up falling out because of the moisture, but this one stayed put perfectly.  The sound quality is also great.  It’s not tinny sounding, the bass is not over the top, it’s a real quality ear bud!

Photo May 23, 8 43 22 PM

Overall, I couldn’t be happier with the Sport Bud Single Earbud.  There’s also a more traditional double ear bud pack, which would be great for the gym or for yard work.  I’ve tried a couple other brands, and the sound has gone in and out or they fall out of my ears, but not the Sport Bud!  The current price is $17.99, it’s on sale currently; normally $19.99.  Some of the sport ear buds go for as much as $50, and I think the Spot Bud is perfect.  No need to spend twice as much!

Do you listen to music when you run, walk, or bike? Be sure to check out the Sport Bud if you’re in the market for some fantastic ear buds!
